The Pittsburgh Steelers tried to trade for San Francisco 49ers receiver Brandon Aiyuk to improve their situation at the position, but as we’ve seen, that’s far from a certainty.
If the Steelers fail to land Aiyuk, they will have to explore other options for a locker room led by George Pickens that has several question marks hanging over it.
In our final 53-man Pittsburgh selection, we had Pickens, Van Jefferson, Calvin Austin, Roman Wilson, Scotty Miller and Dez Fitzpatrick among the players retained. Quez Watkins is another possibility, though he had a poor offseason.

One of these options could be Houston Texans wide receiver Robert Woods, who Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report believes he would be a good fit for the Steelers if Houston cut him.
The Steelers and Commanders come to mind. Both teams have been linked to Brandon Aiyuk this preseason. While Woods isn’t Aiyuk, he would give both teams a reliable veteran presence that neither team really has.
Woods would join George Pickens and Van Jefferson as the top options in Pittsburgh while he could help replace Jahan Dotson in Washington. The Commanders just traded the young receiver and need weapons for Jayden Daniels.
With the Texans wide receivers room Given that he is so rich, there is a good chance that Woods will not be retained. If he is released, he would immediately become a free agent and would not be subject to waivers because he is a vested veteran.
Woods is coming off a season in which he recorded 40 receptions for 426 yards and a touchdown in 14 games, serving as the No. 5 option in the passing attack when everyone was healthy in Houston.
Unfortunately, Woods isn’t the same receiver he was at age 32, so he wouldn’t change much. But he’s still a safe bet, perhaps more than any other receiver outside of Pickens, so he’d be worth considering.
