Borderlands 4 is nearly here, and to prepare for its release, players can preload the game to jump in immediately after its launch. The latest entry in the beloved looter-shooter franchise brings a wishlist’s worth of new features, ranging from the transition to an open world to a much-needed QoL mechanic that makes boss farms much easier. Gearbox have also revealed its ambitious plans for the game’s future, meaning players can look forward to plenty of new content in the weeks to come. Borderlands 4 Preload Start Date and Size
As revealed by the ‘PlayStation Game Size’ account on X, Borderlands 4 preloads will kick off on September 10. This means preloads across all platforms should be underway, but in case the download doesn’t appear for you, we recommend waiting until tomorrow. Here are the preloads’ sizes as per the same source:
- PC: 65 GB
- PS5: 28.1 GB
- Xbox Series X/S: 29.5 GB
With the exception of the Steam version, these download sizes are surprisingly low. That said, the game will be receiving a day-one patch, which could take the final size closer to the 65 GB mark, so keep that in mind.
How to Preload Borderlands 4 on Steam & Epic Games Store
Preloading Borderlands 4 on any platform requires you to purchase the game first. Follow these steps to preload the game on PC:
- Launch Steam/Epic Games Store and open Borderlands 4’s store page.
- Pre-purchase the game.
- After completing the purchase, you’ll see a Preload option.
- Select it to pre-download the game.
Note: Preloads haven’t gone live on PC yet, so players on Steam and EGS cannot pre-download the game for the time being. We’ll be sure to update this section in case that changes.

PS5 players can preload Borderlands 4 by following these steps:
- Open the Borderlands 4 game page in the PlayStation Store.
- Pre-purchase the game first and then head to your Library.

Xbox Series X/S can preload BL4 by following these steps:
