LAINEY WILSON – BELL BOTTOM COUNTRY: STREAM IT OR SKIP IT?
Initial shot: “A lot of things can happen in a year and I am proof of that. I went from playing a show in Alabama to 87 people, and the next thing you know, I’m headlining my first stadium show.” While looking at the rows of seats during sound check, Lainey Wilson says that her moments on the big stage always remind her of who she is and where she comes from.
The essence: With her new album about to be released, Lainey Wilson leans into the media bombardment. Bell Bottom Country is streaming on Hulu and, with the Roberts connection, can be streamed Good morning america. She just made his new single in The voice. And while basically everyone who isn’t Taylor Sheridan doesn’t know anything about the future of yellow stone, Wilson made a memorable turn on the show, playing a version of herself in the first part of season five. So it’s all coming up, Lainey. But Wilson is doing his best to hold his own. “You can’t think that everyone will love you,” he says in Bell Bottom Country. And he recognizes how fickle and fleeting the music business can be. But for now, she’s here trying to live up to the work ethic that was instilled in her from an early age. The documentary special travels back to Wilson’s hometown of Baskin, Louisiana, where she grew up on a farm, was a flag bearer at the local rodeo and first learned a few guitar chords from her father. Before she was ten years old she was already writing her own songs. And soon enough, she found ways to perform too, even playing Hannah Montana at children’s parties and nursing homes. “I’d open for myself,” Wilson tells Roberts in Doorbellplaying some originals before putting on the blonde wig and singing “Nobody is perfect†through your portable sound system.
As Wilson continues his stadium tour in 2023, Bell Bottom Country includes more flashbacks, covering his arrival in Nashville in 2011, the years of struggle and hustle that followed, and his first steps toward exposure, which would lead to the smash hit single “Things A Man Oughta Know” in 2019. Also featured brief interviews with radio hosts and occasional american idol mentor Bobby Bones, Wilson’s band, his fellow songwriters in Nashville and manager Mandelyn Monchick.

Our opinion: Lainey Wilson: Bell Bottom Country features an artist who certainly seems ready to take on the next phase of her career. But that’s probably because her prep work began in 2011, when she was 19 and she had just arrived in Nashville and lived in a trailer next to a recording studio. It’s one thing to see her on the Grammy stage, accepting the award for Best Country Album. AND Bell Bottom Country includes some solid clips of their exciting live performances in front of sold-out stadiums. But it is the rawest and most ancient moments that resonate most in this special documentary. I have no followers! “None!” laments the Lainey Wilson of a few years ago on her Instagram stories, and her manager tells how much Wilson killed him at one of the first showcase events they booked, which would be great, except for the fact that no one showed up. above.
