The Philadelphia 76ers could have a busy summer. In what has been an underwhelming season, the Sixers are a lottery team looking to get back on track. Philadelphia has a chance to bring in someone like Ace Bailey, VJ Edgecombe and if they are really lucky, they could bring in Cooper Flagg. Regardless of who they choose, the Sixers have a big decision ahead of them.

Philadelphia could bring in an impactful, game changing player from the draft, but what if they choose to go in a different direction? FanSided’s Christopher Kline posed an interesting question, and it involved Sixers guard Tyrese Maxey and New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson. The piece discussed whether Philadelphia should consider trading Maxey for Williamson.

Maxey has been a focal point for the Sixers in the past few seasons. He continues to be a key player for them, and this season, he is averaging 26.3 points and 6.1 rebounds while shooting 43.7%. The 2024 Most Improved Player is one of the bright spots of the Sixers season, as their stars Joel Embiid and Paul George have missed significant time due to injuries. A trio of Embiid, George and Maxey could do great things, but they have had very few opportunities to share the court.

The Sixers could stick with this trio next season, and add a lottery pick with hopes of not only turning things around, but also preparing for the future. However, they could make an even bigger splash with Williamson.

Williamson is having a strong year, as he is averaging 24.6 points, 7.2 rebounds and 5.3 assists. The Pelicans forward is reminding everyone of how skilled he is when healthy, and at 24 years old, he still has time to develop. The two-time All-Star puts the Pelicans in a tricky spot, as he is young enough to build around, but New Orleans wants a fresh start. Trading Brandon Ingram during the trade deadline was a sign of their plans.

The Pelicans could trade Williamson over the summer, and the Sixers could be one of many teams interested. If they do bring him in, it will require something drastic like parting with Maxey. Then, the Sixers would have a trio of Embiid, George and Williamson, which could either work out or it could hurt them in the long run.
