Apple’s journey into artificial intelligence began with the rollout of Apple Intelligence in iOS 18 beta and macOS Sequoia beta. While not many of the Apple Intelligence features are available to users, you can still get a taste of it (provided you have an Apple Intelligence-enabled device). Safari has been one of the biggest beneficiaries of the Apple Intelligence feature, and one of the useful features you can try right now is the new Summarize feature. Safari can now provide AI-generated summaries of web pages. Here’s how to summarize web pages in Safari using Apple Intelligence.
Note: Apple Intelligence features are only available in the iOS 18 beta at this time.
- Open a webpage on Safari on your iPhone or Mac that you want to get the summary for.
- Now, switch to reader mode by tapping the icon in the address bar of your iPhone or Mac.

- Then choose Show player under the webpage name.

- Now, tap/click Summarize to get the AI-generated summary of the webpage. You will see an animation in the new Siri colors and a text summary being generated.

- You can choose to show or hide the summary by pressing the arrow on your iPhone or the box button on your Mac.

This feature summarizes the text and is very useful in cases where you don’t want to go through large blocks. Although it is currently in beta, the Summarize feature works perfectly. One thing to note here is that every time you refresh the webpage, you will have to follow all the steps again to get the summary. Moreover, the summary feature works in private mode as well.
I think this feature would have been more useful if it was accessible without having to dig into Reader Mode. Still, this Apple Intelligence feature is another handy feature like Writing Tools that aims to improve the user experience and increase productivity.
