The Reds have seen Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leoni both go down with injuries this season, while Ibrahima Konate also missed time for personal reasons. Add in the transfer whiff of Marc Guehi over the summer, plus more injuries to wide defenders, and the Reds are in significant trouble at the back.

On the final day of the January transfer window, rumours appeared seemingly from thin air that the Reds were on the verge of signing Jeremy Jacquet of Stade Rennes, but the swoop includes an odd quirk given their immediate need at the position.

Who is Jeremy Jacquet?

20-year-old Jeremy Jacquet is signing for Liverpool from French club Stade Rennes, apparently on his way to England for a medical the morning of transfer deadline day, according to The Athletic and other reports. The transfer was then confirmed by the club later that evening.

Although eligible to play for Guadeloupe, Jacquet is a France youth international who has made appearances at every level of the national team setup, all the way from U-17 up through the U-21.

He has been with Stade Rennes his entire senior career to this point, joining the club’s youth setup in 2019 after beginning as a young boy with local sides AS Outre Mer du Bois l’Abbe and RC Joinville. He dealt with a “growth-related illness” which hampered his development at times, according to French reports.

Jacquet made his professional debut with Rennes in January of 2024, coming off the bench for four minutes in a league match against Nice. After that one appearance, he went on loan to Clermont Foot where he would make 23 league appearances over the next year, returning to Rennes in the winter of 2025 where he established himself as a regular starter, playing every single minute of Ligue 1 action this season before a red card against PSG on Dec. 6 ended that streak.

Reports claim that Liverpool are prepared to shell out £55 million ($75.1m / €63.6m) for Jacquet, with another £5 million in add-ons possible after that.

While personal terms have not yet been agreed, the reports claim that a deal between the player and his new Premier League club are “not set to be an issue.”

According to Sky Sports, Jeremy Jacquet will not join Liverpool until the summer, set to complete his medical on January deadline day but the transfer will not be finalised until the following window opens in July, according to Fabrizio Romano. He has signed a five-year contract starting July 1, 2026.

Once he arrives, Liverpool have told Jacquet that he will be a “very important player” according to Romano, and that tracks with the club’s current defensive squad standing.

Virgil van Dijk has shown signs of age this season, now 34 years old, and there is little behind the Liverpool captain. Ibrahima Konate is out of contract this season, and Joe Gomez has proven injury prone over the last few years. Other than Rhys Williams, who will be returning from a loan spell at Morecambe and unlikely to factor in at Liverpool, there are no other natural central defenders at the club.

Reports both before and after Wednesday’s draft indicated Bailey had his sights set on a few particular teams, and the Jazz weren’t one of them. The Jazz, meanwhile, made it known through media reports that they were prepared to dig in their heels if necessary and ensure Bailey couldn’t play anywhere else.

He said in a video posted by the Jazz that he’s “ready to start the journey” and had a big smile on his face when he greeted former Jazz forward Carlos Boozer on the tarmac.

Jazz owner Ryan Smith said Thursday that it’s the responsibility of the organization to make Bailey “love” Utah. “He doesn’t have a lot of experience out West here with Utah,” Smith told Pat McAfee. “That’s our job to make him love it. I’m confident in our state, and he’ll feel love here like he’s never felt before.”

Star Wars has officially taken over Fortnite, with a Battle Pass packed with iconic characters and a map full of recognizable POIs and NPCs from a galaxy far, far away.

Over the course of the next season, Epic are bringing a host of updates that introduce new features inspired by George Lucas’ sci-fi universe. This includes the ability to hop into the cockpit of a Star Destroyer and rain down fire from the skies.

Here’s how it works and when it arrives.

How to pilot a Star Destroyer

Once the update is live, a portal will spawn at a random location in every match that takes you to the Star Destroyer. There’s no way to predict where it will appear, but it will be marked clearly on the in-game map, just like it did during the Godzilla event.

After the portal shows itself, it’s a race of who can jump through it first, as only one player will be able to pilot the ship per match.

If you’re lucky enough to get there first, you’ll be taken to the Star Destroyer’s control room, where you’ll be able to fly it around the map and use its “turbolaser” to deal huge damage. There might be other maneuvers while on board, but these are yet to be revealed.

Based on previous events like this, players left on the map will likely be able to defend themselves by attacking the ship. Once its health bar has been depleted, the pilot will return to the ground and continue the match as normal.

When are Star Destroyers coming to Fortnite?

This feature goes live in Fortnite on Thursday, May 29, 2025, as part of the Star Destroyer Bombardment update. So, at the time of writing, it’s not possible to take control of the ship, but you won’t have to wait too long.

It will be available until June 7, when The Final Showdown: Death Star Sabotage live event brings the Star Wars season to a close.

The Eastern Washington graduate and Pacific Northwest enthusiast spent the whole of his big-league career — eight seasons — in Los Angeles, snagging passes to great effect with the Rams. Now, he wanders to pastures new, having inked a three-year, $45 million contract with the Seahawks.

Seattle’s WR room has undergone its fair share of changes as of late. The Jugo Mobile takes a look at how Kupp’s addition, coupled with the departures of longtime Seahawks pass-catchers Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf, will impact Seattle’s receiving depth chart in 2025 — and beyond.

1. Jaxon Smith-Njigba

Smith-Njigba authored up the most productive season of his still burgeoning career, eclipsing the 1,000-yard mark for the first time. The third-year pass-catcher has tended to operate in the slot. But he’s a gifted route-runner whose sure -handed nature has made him a hit in the Pacific Northwest.

At 23 years old, the best is yet to come for Smith-Njigba. He hasn’t been deployed in the X too often thus far. But Smith-Njigba is bursting with talent. And there’s a billowing tapestry of slot guys who have proved themselves formidable No. 1 options. Just ask Kupp, whose 2021 campaign sits pretty in the record books.

2. Cooper Kupp

Kupp’s best days look firmly behind him at present, with the former Rams standout missing at least five games in each of the past three seasons. But when he’s healthy, he can still conjure up magic; Kupp was on pace for 1,000-yard seasons in each of his injury-plagued years.

At his best, Kupp is one of the NFL’s best security blankets. Much like Smith-Njigba, he relies on inch-perfect cuts and turns — not game-breaking speed — to turn opposition defenders into dust. That attribute should make Kupp a favorite of new hurler Sam Darnold, who showed a willingness to dump the ball off to his best players in Minnesota.

Kupp has some experience playing a supplementary role in the pass game — he spent the past two years partnering with Puka Nacua in Los Angeles’ receivers room. As long as he’s healthy, one should expect a solid campaign for the Eastern Washington alum in 2025.

3. Marquez Valdes-Scantling

With Smith-Njigba and Kupp garnering plaudits for their slot skills, the Seahawks were in desperate need of a vertical threat. Enter Valdes-Scantling, a speedster whose role in NFL offenses has wavered throughout his eight-year career.

Valdes-Scantling snagged 22 passes for 411 yards and four scores in 2024, good for 22.6 yard per reception mark, the second-highest mark in football. He should find a role as a deep threat in Seattle’s offense in 2025.

4. Jake Bobo

Bobo received reduced looks in 2024, garnering eight fewer targets and six fewer receptions than in 2023, his rookie season. Despite his relatively unimpressive production, Bobo remains a popular figure. His role in Klint Kubiak’s offense will likely expand in 2025.

5. Cody White

The Seahawks re-signed White, bringing back of practice squad standout who nabbed two catches for 44 yards — and blocked a punt — during Seattle’s Week 9 loss to the Rams. For his efforts, he was rewarded with a spot on the team’s 53-man roster for the remainder of the season.

6. Dareke Young

Young has two catches in his three-year big-league career, with the Seahawks mostly stationing him in special teams. At present, there’s little reason to believe his role will change in 2025.

Seahawks replace Geno Smith with Sam Darnold at QB

Sam Darnold will be holding the reins to Seattle’s offense in 2025, having inked a three-year, $100.5 million deal with the Seahawks this offseason after they traded Geno Smith to the Raiders.

Darnold, 27, authored up by far the best season of his seven-year career in 2024, tallying 4,319 yards and 35 passing touchdowns while leading the Vikings to a 14-4 record, good for third in the NFC.

His numbers were undoubtedly augmented by Minnesota’s talent-laden receiving corps. But Darnold cut an improved figure underneath the gleaming Minneapolis lights. His displays were impressive enough to convince Seattle to part ways with longtime starter Geno Smith, who now leads the line in Las Vegas.

Darnold should get ample opportunities to perform while in the Emerald City. His lack of production is his earlier years certainly raises questions regarding his ability to push a franchise on. But the Seahawks have long been considered one of the NFL’s most well-run organizations. And with Smtih-Njigba, Kupp and Kenneth Walker in stow, there’s reason to believe Seattle’s offense can be solid in 2025.

Nearly half of Friday’s fights UN 168 The bill, which will air on Prime Video, will be contested under Muay Thai rules.

This is intentional, according to ONE CEO Chatri Sityodtong.

Chatri, a Thai national now based in Singapore, regularly trains in the “art of eight limbs” and has long sensed that the sport has the potential to become a mainstream hit in the United States.

“At the end of the day, fight fans around the world love endings and they love fighters who have a big heart,” Chatri told the Jugo Mobile ahead of Friday’s fight at Denver’s 21,000-capacity Ball Arena. “That’s Muay Thai.”

Chatri’s theory was validated when ONE made its U.S. debut last year.

The 2023 edition saw some of the biggest names in Muay Thai take part, including Thai champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon, who received the loudest reception of the night, even louder than the one received by MMA legend Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson. “The Iron Man” was nearly dragged into the stands after his KO win over Edgar Tabares.

“Rodtang, who doesn’t speak a word of English, got a bigger ovation than Demetrious Johnson, who is the GOAT of mixed martial arts,” Chatri recalls. “He was like a rock star.”

Rich Franklin, a UFC Hall of Famer and longtime ONE vice president, has similarly fond memories of Rodtang’s reception in Denver. He also shares Chatri’s view that Muay Thai has the potential to become a hit with American sports fans, particularly ONE’s brand of Muay Thai, which is fought with four-ounce MMA gloves, rather than traditional boxing gloves.

“[Muay Thai fighters] are on such a different level with their stand-up,” Franklin told the Jugo Mobile“It’s light years above and beyond MMA fighters. You just see a different level of striking. It’s really entertaining, and you add to that the fact that they’re wearing the same gloves as you in an MMA match, and it’s really exciting fights.

“Once American fans discover this product and see that these athletes are much cleaner with their stand-up, the interest [in Muay Thai] will grow exponentially.

The headline attraction at ONE 168 will see UK bantamweight Muay Thai champion Jonathan Haggerty defend his belt against Thai flyweight champion Superlek. This will be the second time the two have met – Superlek defeated Haggerty outside of ONE in 2018 – but both fighters have changed significantly since their first encounter.

“The last time we fought, I was a boy,” Haggerty told the Jugo Mobile before the rematch. “I’m a man now. I’ve adapted. I know myself as a fighter. I know what works for me and what doesn’t. I’m a completely different fighter.”

Neither Chatri nor Franklin were willing to give a prediction for Friday’s main event, but both predicted an exciting fight, with strong knockout chances.

“[American fans] “They’re going to be blown away,” Chatri said.[These are] “The best strikers in the world, both in their prime, both knockout artists, both incredible craftsmen, master technicians in their craft, they have incredible punching power and they are fast. It’s a real treat for the American fans.”

The card will also feature another high-stakes fight between the UK and Thailand, with British fan favourite Liam “The Hitman” Harrison taking on Seksan, a veteran with hundreds of fights and the owner of one of the greatest – and longest – nicknames in combat sports: “The Man Who Backs Down to No One”.

The duo have been involved in some of the most violent fights in recent Muay Thai history – check out Harrison’s fight with Muangthai if you haven’t seen it – and are expected to prove themselves again in Denver.

“Both of them are legends and both of them are great performers,” Chatri said. “Liam, I think he can go on to win and eventually challenge for a world title. I really think he still has it.”

“Seksan is just a grizzled old veteran with like 400 pro fights, or maybe over 400 pro fights. I don’t even know, but he’s been around the block, done this, done that, done everything possible in terms of striking. He’s a monster.”

It remains to be seen whether ONE can gain a significant foothold in the United States, especially with MMA promotions like the UFC, PFL and Bellator already well established in the market.

Both Franklin and Chatri are optimistic, however, and point out that ONE is quite different from its American counterparts, largely because it also offers Muay Thai fights.

“Differentiation is a big part of our brand identity,” Franklin said, referring to the line of martial arts that ONE promotes.

“We’re offering something so different that I don’t think we’re a direct competitor, per se, to existing organizations,” Chatri added. “The DNA and ethos of ONE is completely opposite of the UFC. The UFC is very good at selling pay-per-views with hype, hate, anger and controversy. We’re releasing real-life superheroes. We’re telling their stories.”

In addition to its five Muay Thai bouts – one of which will see UFC veteran John Lineker try his hand at the sport against Asa Ten Pow – Friday’s ONE 168 schedule will feature five high-profile MMA fights, as well as a grappling submission title fight.

ONE’s American fans have been eagerly awaiting the event, especially since it’s been over a year since the promotion last performed.

The wait for ONE’s next US event won’t be as long.

The promotion is already scheduled for a concert in Atlanta on November 8. This card The fight will be capped by two MMA title fights, but will also feature high-profile Muay Thai bouts, including another appearance by Rodtang, who will defend his flyweight belt against Jacob Smith.

More ONE events are scheduled to hit American soil in 2025, and we can expect just as much Muay Thai action on those cards – much to the delight of the sport’s growing fanbase in the country.

“We are already planning for 2025 and are very excited about what this year will bring,” Franklin said.

“We’re far from being mainstream here yet,” Chatri added. “I think one day we will be. We’re very well positioned to make a splash in America.”
