While many of the league’s prominent players attended the All-Star Media Day on Saturday, James has made alternative arrangements.

James did not attend the media event on that day; instead, he will be available for media engagements on Sunday.

This change in scheduling has prompted speculation about a significant announcement.

There’s been a lot of buzz around this press conference, with fans and analysts wondering if James might announce his retirement after the 2025/26 season. Still, sources share that he has used a similar scheduling approach before, mostly to make the most of his rest during breaks.

When is LeBron James’ press conference?

James is scheduled to conduct a solo press conference on Sunday, 15th February 2026, at 2:30 p.m. ET and 11:30 a.m. PT.

LeBron James will not be present for today’s NBA All-Star Media Day and will be made available on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. PT in the press conference room.

The NBA announced that James would forgo the customary All-Star Media Day on Saturday and instead host a separate press conference before participating in the 75th annual NBA All-Star Game later that evening.

This is the fourth year in a row that James has chosen to have a standalone session instead of participating in the general media day.

But that hasn’t stopped the Mavericks from trying. During the Mavericks’ exit press conference, team CEO Rick Welts compared the deal to a pretty obscure trade involving two Mavericks alumni from over a decade ago to justify it.

The Athletic’s Tim Cato revealed on DLLS Sports that Welts compared the trade to when the Golden State Warriors traded Monta Ellis to the Milwaukee Bucks for Andrew Bogut mid-season in 2012. Per Cato, the rationale for the comparison was that although Bogut was hurt when the trade happened and not as “marketable” as Ellis was when the Warriors traded for the former, “it got better because they had a guard named Steph Curry, and Steph Curry came in and made the entire fanbase love him.”

Cato pointed out the problem with this comparison, saying, “In this analogy, Luka is not Monta Ellis. Luka is Steph Curry, and the exact same thing would happen in Golden State if you traded Stephen Curry.”

Bogut contributed to the Warriors’ 2015 title three seasons after Golden State acquired him, but he wasn’t their best player as much as he was a piece of the puzzle. That’s why there’s a huge difference between these two trades. Doncic was one of the NBA’s very best players, and he had proven to the Mavericks that he could take them very far in the playoffs in his mid-20s. He has proven he can be the best player on a title contender.

Bogut was a good player in his prime but never near the same level as Doncic. Neither was Ellis, for that matter. That’s what makes this comparison so ludicrous.

Then there’s Andre Drummond. Drummond sprained his ankle early during the Sixers’ win against the Detroit Pistons. Ankle sprains are unpredictable injuries. Sometimes, they last a few days, but other times, they last for months.

In Drummond’s case, The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Keith Pompey reported that his ankle injury will make him miss at least the next three Sixers games.

While talking with reporters on December 2, Drummond downplayed the severity of the injury.

Drummond updated reporters on how he’s felt since suffering his injury against the Pistons.

“It definitely wasn’t great,” Drummond told reporters, per Sixers Wire’s Ky Carlin. “It wasn’t great, but I’m tough. I started moving around a little bit better the next morning, today a little bit better, too. I walked up and down a little bit to see what kind of pressure I can take. A few days away, I should be alright.”

He then added further details on when he expects to be back in action for Philadelphia.

“Weeks? Days,” he said. “I recover fast, man. I’m staying on top of it. Just doing what the doctors tell me to do and when it’s time for me to come back, I’ll come back. My plan is to come back soon.”

Throughout his NBA career, Drummond has been an iron man, more or less. The fewest games he’s played in a season are 57 and 46 during the 2020 and 2021 seasons, respectively. Both of those seasons were shortened because of COVID-19. Drummond has gotten hurt every now and then, but if he says he’s coming back shortly, it’s easy to believe he’s telling the truth based on his history.
