Trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo was a massive investment for the Miami Heat. Since he is one of the league’s best players, getting him required a significant trade package. This was a tough decision for team president Pat Riley because he liked the players they parted ways with.

The Heat sent Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, and three first-round picks to the Milwaukee Bucks. That was a big-time package for a superstar, and it was a difficult decision for Riley and his front office because they had to give up so much.

Getting a superstar always requires a significant investment. Whether that is through a huge contract in free agency or a big trade, there is always a need for investment in a huge talent. The Heat are well aware of that because they have made massive moves in the past.

This includes getting Shaquille O’Neal back in 2004, signing LeBron James and Chris Bosh in 2010, and many more. They are a team that is well known for taking big swings, and Riley has been at the helm for all of those decisions over the past three decades.

Swinging for Giannis was an obvious choice to make because the Heat needed a change. They have been toiling in mediocrity for a long while, so getting a superstar was the quickest and most effective remedy for that. However, they did have to give up a lot to get him and Bobby Portis Jr.

“We gave up a significant price. He’s worth it. Period. That’s how I look at it. Those are 3 very good young players. One has a lot of experience, but the other three are very good young players with huge upside. We don’t have to figure out what this player’s upside is. He may not even have maxed out yet,” Riley said after Antetokounmpo’s introductory press conference.

Antetokounmpo is hungry to win again, as it has been five years since he won the championship with the Bucks. Now that he is with the Heat, he has improved chances of winning all over again.

The 2026 offseason has been filled to the brim with massive moves. Pat Riley and the Miami Heat have been at the forefront of that because they traded for Giannis Antetokounmpo. However, it seems they are not done because they are chasing the biggest name in the market right now, LeBron James.

As James left the Los Angeles Lakers, everyone in the league was looking to sign him. Unfortunately for most of the league, only a few teams stepped up as likely teams he would sign for. Among those teams is the Heat, an older stomping ground.

Pat Riley admits he and LeBron James have had discussions

Considering James is one of the biggest names in NBA history, it is normal for teams to chase after him. Yes, he is 41, but he has proven that he can still play at a high level, as he showcased during the Lakers’ postseason run in 2026.

After trading for Antetokounmpo, people have criticized the Heat because they don’t have the depth to compete as a contender. However, getting LeBron could be a magnificent move in boosting their team because he will be a massive star for the team.

Andrew Wiggins could easily switch over to the shooting guard position, as James can slide to his natural small forward role. The Heat are a good fit, but it seems Riley and the rest of the league have to wait for James to make his final decision.

“To be transparent about it, we’ve had discussions over a week ago, maybe a week before that about it, but right now I think we’re like everybody else, we’re just waiting to see what he does,” Riley said after the Antetokounmpo introductory press conference.

It would definitely be interesting to see where LeBron ends up. If he goes through another free agency period and picks Miami all over again, that would mean that they are ready to compete for a title. It would also be proof that Riley still has the pull as a team president.

New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn was caught sleeping on live television during an NFL Network broadcast of the 2026 Scouting Combine on Thursday afternoon.

The viral incident occurred at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis while cameras panned to the team’s suite during an evaluation period for defensive linemen and linebackers. Glenn appeared to be sound asleep for several seconds with his eyes closed and his right fist pressed against his face, while host Rich Eisen commented that he was “looking on”.

The optics of the nap were particularly damaging as the second-year head coach had announced only days prior that he would reclaim defensive play-calling duties for 2026. During that Tuesday session, Glenn referred to play-calling as his “superpower,” citing his four years of tenure with the Detroit Lions.

“To me, play calling is my superpower, really,” Glenn said. “Doing it for four years in Detroit, and just look at the maturation of those four years of how we improved every year, and how I improved as a play caller. I really miss doing that.”

Awful Announcing later posted on Instagram that someone likely alerted Glenn that he was asleep on a broadcast featuring prospects: Duke’s Vincent Anthony Jr. and Penn State’s Zane Durant.

Aaron Glenn’s Green and White finished a dismal season

The Green and White finished a dismal 2025 regular season with a 3-14 record following a 35-8 loss to the Buffalo Bills. That finish, impacted by a .552 strength of schedule tiebreaker, secured the No. 2 overall pick for a roster that ranked in the bottom five of the league for points allowed.

The Jets’ defense surrendered 29.6 points per game last year, a figure General Manager Darren Mougey hopes to rebuild with three of the first 35 selections in the upcoming draft.

The Jets also hold the No. 16 overall pick for the April 23 event in Pittsburgh following a franchise-altering trade with the Indianapolis Colts on Nov. 4. In that mid-season ‘white flag’ move, the Jets sent All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner to the Colts in exchange for wide receiver Adonai Mitchell and two first-round assets.

Mougey will now oversee the 91st annual draft at Pittsburgh’s North Shore.

The team is currently transitioning to a 3-4 defensive scheme under Glenn and recently traded defensive end Jermaine Johnson to the Tennessee Titans for defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat.

The Jets are targeting elite edge prospects such as Arvell Reese or Rueben Bain Jr. with their premium picks.

Pat Connaughton Achieves Season Best Performance Against His Former Bucks Teammates

After spending the last seven seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks, veteran guard Pat Connaughton found himself in new colors this year. Traded to the Charlotte Hornets during the offseason, the move marked the third stop of his 11-year NBA career.

When Connaughton arrived in Charlotte, expectations were modest. According to Hornets general manager Jeff Peterson, Connaughton was initially told that making the final roster was unlikely. Still, the 32-year-old guard remained committed, working his way into shape and ultimately earning a spot on the team. The move also reunited him with Charles Lee, his former assistant coach in Milwaukee and now the Hornets’ second-year head coach.

On Wednesday night, Connaughton faced his former team for the first time — and made his presence felt. With LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller sidelined, Connaughton stepped up in extended minutes, delivering his best performance as a Hornet. He scored 11 points in 11 minutes on efficient 4-for-6 shooting, including 2-for-4 from three-point range, while adding two rebounds and two assists.

After the game, Coach Lee praised Connaughton for his professionalism and leadership.

“He’s been very helpful to our team,” Lee said. “His daily routines and habits are so professional, and our guys need more people around them that model winning behaviors. His vocal leadership has been amazing.”

There has been a lot of buzz recently around Ja Morant and the Miami Heat.

After Morant had another embattled event with the Memphis Grizzlies, many thought that both sides might finally be heading toward a breakup. Eventually, Miami has been pegged as one of the prominent potential destinations proposed for the All-Star.

Still, most people think that Morant going to the Heat is simply unrealistic. Knowing the Memphis guard’s history of bad conduct on and off the court, many view trading for Morant as disruptive and horrible by Miami’s “Heat Culture” standards.

Amid considerable doubts, a veteran Heat writer and insider believes that there is a significant chance Miami may seize a trade for Morant.

Appearing on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel was asked if there is a possibility that the Heat will pursue Morant in the near future. Interestingly, he argued that it’s likely under Pat Riley’s radar, while referencing Tim Hardaway Sr.’s arrival to the franchise back in the ‘90s.

“Yes, yes, and yes, because that’s who Pat Riley is,” Winderman said. “It’s Pat Riley’s home for distressed players, and I will take this back to 1996.

“Tim Hardaway’s taken out of the starting lineup by Rick Adelman [of the Golden State Warriors]. He’s got his bum knees, his career is over, he’s a short player — who would take a chance on him? Boom, [it’s Riley].”

In the middle of the 1995–96 season, Hardaway Sr. saw a bitter end to his remarkable run with the Golden State Warriors. After five seasons as the team’s star floor general, the franchise decided to trade him away due to his reported tensions with Latrell Sprewell and the coaching staff, as well as declining play and statistics after suffering a torn ACL injury that kept him out of the 1993–94 season.

But being acquired by Riley to join the Heat served as a blessing in disguise for Hardaway Sr. He revived his All-Star form while helping Miami’s transformation into an Eastern Conference powerhouse, ultimately propelling his Hall of Fame career.

Since 2023, Morant dramatically regressed from being one of the league’s future faces into a scandal-ridden, oft-injured star. Perhaps a new scenery might give him a renewed spark in fulfilling his true potential.

As the man behind the “Heat Culture,” Riley is notoriously strict and abrasive. But he and Miami might intriguingly do wonders in redeeming Morant for the better, should they ultimately choose to go all-in for the disgruntled Grizzlies sensation.

Riley Moss Steps Up as Pat Surtain’s Injury Eases Pressure, at Least for Now

The Denver Broncos are likely to be without their top defensive player, Pat Surtain II, for at least a brief amount of time, following the reigning Defensive Player of the Year suffering a strained pec on Sunday.

It’s a difficult injury for the team to deal with, but not one that can’t be overcome due to the depth on the roster. The team used its first-round pick on Jahdae Barron for situations such as this and there is plenty of confidence in Kris Abrams-Draine to step into a starting role as well.

But Riley Moss could actually get some pressure taken off his shoulders during this time. If you’ve watched Broncos games this season, you’ve likely noticed the opposing team throwing against Moss early and often. While teams shy away from Surtain’s side of the field, they zero in on Moss.

There are those who feel that Moss has played poorly as he leads the league in defensive pass interference calls, but he’s actually played quite well given the circumstances.

Former Hawkeye Riley Moss has been targeted more than any other DB in the NFL this season.

He’s been targeted 53 times, but his 45.3% completion percentage allowed is the best of any DB that has faced more than 22 targets.

Teams playing the Broncos while Surtain is out will likely look to spread the ball around more, and Moss can get a chance to regroup a little bit and build up even more confidence. It’s never a good thing when the best player on the roster goes down with injury, but the Broncos have quality depth behind Surtain and can use this time to get those players some great experience and make the collective unit even better as a whole.

Micky Arison and Pat Riley’s Urgency: Miami Heat Eyeing Kevin Durant in 2026 NBA Free Agency

The Miami Heat were reportedly unreasonable in trade negotiations with the Phoenix Suns for Kevin Durant, leading to the Houston Rockets having the winning bid. Miami wouldn’t part with Kel’el Ware or Nikola Jović. Houston was willing to part with Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, a 2025 first-round pick (No. 10 overall), and five second-round draft picks. Ipso facto, the Rockets landed Durant.

It’s just business. And that’s what may lead the Heat back around to check in on KD during 2026 free agency if he’s still available.

Bleacher Report’s Scott Polaceck believes the team’s continued lack of national relevance can lead the team’s brain trust to push for a difference-maker like Durant to be the centerpiece surrounded by Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro, and the aforementioned young players Micky Arison and Pat Riley wouldn’t deal away.

“Miami could use an impact player like the 15-time All-Star considering it is coming off a 37-45 season and doesn’t have a franchise-altering superstar alongside Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro,” Polaceck wrote.

“The franchise has often relied on those types of players such as LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Jimmy Butler in recent years, but there isn’t nearly as much star power on the roster heading into the 2025-26 campaign.

“A third straight first-round exit could be in the cards as a result, which could surely be a motivating factor for the front office if and when Durant hits free agency.”

The Athletic’s William Guillory reported Houston’s plan to block that plan by securing Durant and Tari Eason to long-term deals.

“This hasn’t become a big deal yet because all signs point to Durant inking some form of an extension in the coming weeks that will tie him to Houston for the foreseeable future. As of Wednesday, however, the 36-year-old still has only one year and approximately $54.7 million remaining on his current deal,” Guillory wrote.

“The belief among many around the NBA is that Houston is working to secure a long-term extension with Eason — who also has one year remaining on his contract — before inking Durant’s new deal. The hope is that once both are secured, the Rockets will have a much better understanding of what the financial future looks like for this current core.”

Durant has a two-year, $118 million extension on the table. We’ll see if he enjoys his new digs in H-Town before thinking about heading to South Beach to play for a sixth team in his NBA career.

Pat McAfee’s rise in Indiana has included a turn as a Pacers superfan this postseason, with the former Colts punter hyping up the crowd during home games. On Friday during Game 4, McAfee was not afraid to call out another media member in his speech.

Stephen A. Smith was caught in McAfee’s crosshairs on Friday, as the ESPN talking head was in Indiana for the network’s coverage of the NBA Finals. McAfee and Smith have been co-workers ever since McAfee’s show began airing on ESPN, but the two have big personalities and histories of beefs.

Pat McAfee calls out Stephen A. Smith during Game 4 of NBA Finals

In the second half of Game 4 in Indiana, Pat McAfee took the microphone to hype up the Pacers’ crowd. At the time, the Pacers were up three points and had controlled most of the game.

“Even though we’re up 2-1 in the series with home-court advantage coming into tonight’s game, the Oklahoma City Thunder were favored to win the NBA Title!” McAfee said in his speech. “Coming into tonight’s game, Oklahoma City was favored by 6.5 points! That makes us the biggest underdogs in NBA Finals history!”

Then, McAfee called out two entities for their lack of knowledge: sportsbooks and Stephen A. Smith.

“The sportsbooks don’t know, Stephen A. Smith doesn’t know,” he said, as the crowd roared in agreement.

Oklahoma City went on to defeat the Pacers 111-104, making McAfee’s hype video fall a little flat.

One of Smith’s co-hosts on ESPN’s pregame show, Kendrick Perkins, didn’t appear to enjoy McAfee’s WWE-style performance:

“By the way, Pat McAfee, in OKC, we don’t need nobody on the mic to get them hyped. They’re gonna be hyped. That building is gonna be rocking.”

Smith addressed it shortly after, noting that he was correct in picking the Thunder before laughing it off and saying he “loved” McAfee’s trash talk.

McAfee and Smith have a previous beef dating back over a year when they reportedly yelled at each other over “creative differences” about an ESPN project. According to a New York Post report, Smith banned McAfee from “First Take” before rescinding the ban soon after.

The two reportedly squashed their beef since, but they remain two of the biggest names on ESPN. Additionally, since this report came out, McAfee’s Pacers and Smith’s Knicks have played in the NBA playoffs twice, with Indiana winning both times.

For now, it appears McAfee will avoid another multi-day media cycle over his in-game antics, unlike earlier in the playoffs when he verbally sparred with John Mellencamp and Ben Stiller during the Pacers-Knicks series.

Pat Surtain Boldly Speaks Out on the Broncos-Chiefs Showdown in 2025

The Denver Broncos are no longer the AFC West doormat and after a successful 2024 season, anything short of a good playoff run should be considered a failure.

The Broncos are putting together one of the better rosters in the NFL and behind the mind of Sean Payton and a good supporting coaching staff, the team should be in a position to be a contender in the AFC. The team knows that and the fans know that, but an old rival is still going to scoff at that.

Broncos cornerback and reigning Defensive Player of the Year Pat Surtain II recently made an appearance on the “Get Got Pod” with Marshawn Lynch and Michael Robinson. Surtain was asked about playing against the Kansas City Chiefs and the first words out of his mouth were “We’re gonna get after them boys”.

That is what Broncos Country is expecting to see this season but it may rub fans inside Chiefs Kingdom wrong.

Calling PS2’s comments “silly”, Mike Luciano of Arrowhead Addict also stated that the Broncos are “begging for disaster”. Luciano went on to make the following assessment:

“Denver may have caught many by surprise last year, but now everyone is aware of both Nix’s quality and the depth of one of the best defenses in the league. Mahomes and the Chiefs will need to be aware of the destructive power Surtain’s unit can bring to the table.

The factor that separates these two teams is Mahomes’ pedigree. Despite Nix’s improvements, would anyone take him over Mahomes if these two teams get into a shootout and one clutch two-minute drive is needed to pull out a victory?

Denver has made some improvements, and they may end up eventually being the ones who take control of the AFC West back from Kansas City after their decade of dominance, but Surtain’s comments have just as likely a chance of blowing up in his face and turning him into a pariah.”

There are some very valid points in there. Rookie quarterbacks have had some great success in recent years (C.J. Stroud, Jayden Daniels) but a sophomore slump in the NFL can be a very real thing. An entire offseason to dissect a way to make a quarterback struggle is an eternity for defensive coordinators.

Bo Nix will have to navigate some muddy waters in his second NFL season, that has to be expected. But having the experience of Sean Payton there is going to be huge.

Last season, the Broncos went into Arrowhead Stadium and did everything needed to beat the Chiefs. Trailing by two points with just under six minutes to play, Nix took his team on one of those drives Luciano referenced.

Nix did a masterful job of methodically taking his team down the field with great decision-making that allowed the team to perfectly manipulate the clock simultaneously. Nix went 5-for-5 on the drive for 31 yards. The Broncos converted on third down three separate times, two of those with Nix making the throw to move the chains.

Yes, most people are still going to choose Patrick Mahomes over Nix in a situation like that. But is Mahomes the boogeyman of quarterbacks that he once was? Is Arrowhead Stadium all that scary of a road venue for this Broncos team at this point? Does anyone really fear the Chiefs anymore after watching what Philadelphia did to them in Super Bowl LIX?

Make no mistake, the Chiefs should still be seen as one of the most difficult opponents on the schedule. But facing them is nowhere near the daunting task it once seemed. The Broncos have closed the gap and overtaking Kansas City — and doing it inside the home of Chiefs Kingdom — should be an expectation for this team, not a hope.

Friendly Fire: Ben Stiller and Pat McAfee Exchange Jabs and Fist Bumps During Knicks Rivalry

Ben Stiller wasn’t about to take Pat McAfee’s wrestling-style jabs lying down.

On Tuesday, after the ESPN host and WWE personality stirred up the Indiana crowd during Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals by calling out the celebrity Knicks fans in attendance — including Stiller, Spike Lee and Timothée Chalamet — the actor and filmmaker decided to flip the script.

The hubbub all started during an early break in the fourth quarter as the Pacers were leading 111–96 and McAfee was invited to take the mic at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, the Pacers home arena in Indianapolis, Indiana.

“Indianapolis, Indiana, we got some bigwigs from the big city in the building,” McAfee told the crowd. “Spike Lee is here. Ben Stiller is here. Timothée Chalamet is here. Let’s send these sons of b****** back to New York.”

Alex Golden, an NBA analyst and podcast co-host of “Setting the Pace: A Pacers Podcast,” shared the moment in a video posted to X — and Stiller definitely had an opinion on the matter.

Using the hashtag “#KNICKSIN7,” Stiller responded, “Yes. Weird. We were happy to be there and cheer our team and other than that Indy fans were awesome.”

Then, in his own post to X, Stiller dared McAfee to face him in person during Game 5 at the Garden, sharing a video clip from “The Pat McAfee Show,” and captioning it, “Come to game 5 Pat!!”

In his defense, McAfee said that “a guy with camera” approached him in the fourth quarter and asked him to hype the crowd. So, with about 30-45 seconds, McAfee looked around, spotted the celebrities “all front row” — and just went for it.

“Sons of b****** is certainly not something that was on the mind until I was in the middle of it,” McAfee explained on his show. “I feel like we got to bring a little bit of a hammer here, but we’d like to let them all know — mad respect for coming out, mad respect for the amount of support they show the New York Knicks.”

And while the back-and-forth added some playful tension to the series, it ended on a good-natured note.

On Thursday, McAfee posted to X that he would “not be at Madison Square Garden tonight,” adding, “We appreciate you @BenStiller.”

Stiller replied warmly, posting, “Next time — always welcome, Pat. We can do courtside together!! Hoping we bring it back to Indy xxx Respect xx,” punctuated with two Knicks-themed hearts and a fist bump emoji.
