Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo similarly went viral after a video emerged of him smacking Greece national team teammate Giannoulis Larentzakis on the back of his head while the two were in a large huddle.

Retired NBA player Jeff Teague, who played with Antetokounmpo on the Bucks during the 2020-21 season, recently proposed what he believes was the motivation behind the viral slap.

In an Aug. 18 appearance on the “Club 520 Podcast,” Teague talked at length with the podcast’s co-hosts about Antetokounmpo’s slap.

DJ Wells, one of the co-hosts, said it was unlike Antetokounmpo to lash out at a teammate the way he did.

“I really want to know the backstory. Bro, he had to do something for Giannis to [do that] because we ain’t never seen Giannis be on that,” Wells said. “Everybody tells you he’s a cool dude. He doesn’t crash out like that.”

Teague, who “laughed hard” at the video and confirmed Antetokounmpo was “super cool,” posited that the two-time MVP had a different reason for hitting Larentzakis.

“They’re probably playing some game or something, though, where they’re slapping the back of each other’s heads,” Teague said. “Because the way he just huddled back, it’s got to be a joke.”

The true intention behind Antetokounmpo’s slap likely will never be revealed. But it’s worth hoping that Teague’s assumption is correct and there are no chemistry issues within the Greece national team’s looker room with its EuroBasket action just over one week away.

During Season 2, Episode 6, “Do Your Dirty Words Come Out To Play?” your favorite Tell Me Lies group of friends, frenemies, and straight-up enemies wound up snowed in together at Evan’s house for Thanksgiving – or should we say Slapsgiving.

To cut the tension in the house, the college kids gathered in the living room against their better judgements to play Slap Shots, a drinking game that involves slapping each other and taking shots. As Unk’s “Walk It Out” played in the background, hands started flying and alcohol started flowing. As you can imagine, the game didn’t end well…

Lucy slapped Bree, Wrigley slapped Stephen, and though Stephen dared slap Leo multiple times, Lucy’s new boy didn’t take the bait. Pippa sort of slapped Diana, Diana really slapped Pippa, and Pippa slapped Stephen. The game ended when a furious Molly slapped Evan for paying too much attention to Bree, and when the shot glasses went down, Lucy slapped Diana after learning she knew about Stephen and Leo’s history and didn’t tell her.

The episode was undeniably heated, but when Jugo Mobile asked the Tell Me Lies cast if the controlled violence was real or all part of the act, they assured us that no faces were harmed in the making of Slapsgiving. Except for one…

“There was a real slap in there. There was one,” Branden Cook, who plays Evan, told Jugo Mobile over Zoom. “Yeah, yeah, yeah. I got slapped. [Evan] might have deserved it. But it was fun. It was a lot of fun to shoot. Long, but fun. It’s a game I would never play in real life.”

Though Stephen got the brunt of the slaps during the Slap Shots scene, Tell Me Lies star Jackson White said his face was spared by his fellow co-stars. “I didn’t get any real slaps. I really wanted one. I was like, ‘HIT ME.’ And then obviously everyone was like, ‘NO!’” He did, however, vividly remember Cook getting slapped. “It was awesome. But then they were like guys, ‘No! You can’t do that! So yeah, all fake! It was great…He got his ass smacked. It was so funny.”

White also said the Slap Shots scene was a blast to shoot because the cast was all together for the first time. “Everyone’s so stupid and we all love sweets, and we just sit around eating donuts and we make jokes and toss the football outside, and then we crowd into Evan’s sweaty condo and do some jokes,” he explained. “And, Ed Lilly was directing. That was awesome. He’s the best. It was so much fun. I wish it was always that big group like that.”

Jugo Mobile also spoke to Tell Me Lies stars Alicia Crowder and Sonia Mena, whose characters Diana and Pippa lovingly slapped each other, so their faces were spared as well.

“We kept it really safe. All of our characters are drunk, and so we kind of got into that silly headspace. I remember just having a lot of fun… I just remember laughing with everyone and like having a really great time,” Crowder told Jugo Mobile over Zoom. “I feel like it’s so rare that all of us are together. And that Thanksgiving episode – that one scene in particular – we’re all literally sitting in the same room. So this was a rare treat just be with the cast. I had a blast, honestly.”

Mena agreed, adding, “We got to shoot it in a really cool way where we figured out the sequence, and it was almost like doing a play. We were just run it through and then getting the angles on it. And also, we had been on that stage in those costumes in the dark for probably like 16 or 18 hours a day at that point for at least ten days in a row. And it was midnight at least. I think everyone was just like out of their minds.”

“I don’t know what we were doing,” Mena continued. “We were probably driving the crew insane, but we were just like, ‘We’re going for it, and we’re sorry.’”

VanZant fought for the UFC nine times between 2014 and 2020, and was one of the promotion’s biggest stars for much of that time, but after losing three of her last five fights in the Octagon, she hit free agency.

His first stop after the UFC was BKFC, a bare-knuckle promotion. At the time, she was the biggest signing in the promotion’s history, but she came up short both times she stepped into the ring, losing by decisions to Britain Hart and Rachael Ostovich.

After nearly three years away from combat sports competition, VanZant finally returned to action in May, taking on adult film actress Elle Brooke in a boxing match on MF & DAZN X Series 15. Although Brooke knocked him down in the first round, VanZant was able to come back to a split draw.

The news of his agreement with Power Slap came shortly after the draw with Brooke.

Power Slap is the brainchild of UFC CEO Dana White and sees competitors take turns hitting each other in the face with their palms at point-blank range. It has already been sanctioned in several states, even though there is an obvious risk of serious brain injury to anyone who participates.

Despite working for the UFC and having a close friendship with White, Rogan is clearly not a fan of the fringe sport, which he acknowledged has “been around forever” in markets like Russia.

Most recently, VanZant made her professional boxing debut against Misfit Boxing Women’s Middleweight Champion Elle Brooke on MF & DAZN: X Series 15 on May 25, 2024.

VanZant was knocked down, but the fight ended in a split draw (48-46, 46-48, 47-47).

Brooke and VanZant are expected to have a rematch later this year, but first, she will take the stage at Power Slap 8.

What movies will it remind you of?: You could do a mini film festival with Will Smith sports movies: The Legend of Bagger Vance, Ali, Concussion.

Performance worth seeing: king richard It’s one of the rare times that Will Smith gets so completely lost in a character that we forget we’re watching Will Smith the movie star. He’s an overprotective father role, but with subtleties that fuel the striking affectations: hunched shoulders, pursed lips, tight shorts, that thick accent. this is next to Ali as the best performances of Smith’s career; Don’t be surprised when the Oscar nomination happens.

Sidney and Singleton’s performances are secondary to Smith’s marquee-grabbing, but they’re not beholden to precocious child tropes; They are young women who are realistic in their mannerisms, their screen presence winning enough that we would love to see them in a sequel about the next stage in the lives of Venus and Serena. Also notable is Bernthal, who develops a comic chemistry with Smith: Macci is the nervous one to Richard’s nervous one, and they are funny without drawing too broad strokes. Bottom line, king richard It unfolds fluidly and effectively, with more traits of a character drama than a biographical film. We never get the impression that Richard, as infallible as he often believes himself to be, is unwilling to learn something for himself.
