First launched in 2007, Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed has grown into one of the best-selling video game franchises of all time, so when news of a live-action TV adaptation arrived in 2020, there was a mix of apprehension and excitement. 

Since then, it’s been crickets… until now. On July 17, Netflix announced the series is officially in development, with the plot centering on “power and violence and sex and greed and vengeance.”

But there’s one issue: some fans are nervous after learning who’s helping bring the series to life.

Halo showrunner to helm Assassin’s Creed Netflix series

Alongside Westworld’s Roberto Patino, David Wiener will be serving as co-showrunner on the Assassin’s Creed TV series. For the uninitiated, Wiener served as executive producer on the Halo series, before taking on showrunning duties for Season 2.

Paramount’s big-budget adaptation was widely panned for straying too far from its source material and misrepresenting Master Chief, as well as its pacing, writing, and visual effects.

Despite this, Netflix has placed faith in Wiener, who will co-lead the Assassin’s Creed series alongside Patino, leaving many fans concerned about the Netflix show. 

“The fact that someone who was responsible for the Halo show can go anywhere NEAR a video game adaptation is baffling,” wrote one on X/Twitter. 

“I’m excited, but why did they get the mf from Halo?” said another, while a third added, “A writer from Halo? Oh ok, so it’s dead on arrival.”

However, others are more optimistic, including this person who commented, “At least the showrunner isn’t Steven from Halo who admitted they didn’t play the game. But finally an update… now make this good.”

Netflix reveals details of adaptation

Since the project has only just been confirmed, there’s no release date or cast details right now. However, the streaming service has revealed what it will be about.

Then it starts to rain. Not knowing what the moisture coming from the “ceiling” outside the store means, softer foods begin to dissolve. Then water starts running down the street and into a sewer grate, taking other foods with it. Gum sacrifices himself to save a lot of food.

The surviving food makes it back to the supermarket, even though it’s falling apart, because they think it’s safer inside. Frank laments the fact that they’ve killed all the “humeys” who would have helped them figure out what that water was. On a search and rescue mission, Barry gets the scare of his life when he sees a human sailing away in a boat with the food he salvaged.

What shows will it remind you of? Sausage Party: Foodtopia It is a sequel to the 2016 film Sausage PartyAlthough there are nuances of Ratatouille here too.

Our opinion: The original Sausage Party The film was a success because, even though Ariel Shaffir, Kyle Hunter, Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Jonah Hill made a story that was gleefully profane, there was still a positive and – God help us – wholesome message at its core. Frank and Brenda rely on him to figure out what life is like on the outside. But while that’s going on, Julius and other not-so-friendly foods dominate the weaker, smaller foods as they find housing and try to govern themselves. It’s like Lord of the Flies but with canned goods.

So between the sex scenes, the tragic flood, the scrotum pulling, and the ass fruit taking the lead, we don’t find much to laugh at, at least for the first two episodes.

Sex and skin: We were pretty amazed at what Rogen and company were able to do when we saw all the food having all that sex.

Parting shot: Barry spies on the “humey” who kidnapped all the food he rescued.

Sleeping Star: We don’t know whether to praise Edward Norton for his perfect Woody Allen impression as Sammy Bagel Jr. or feel offended by him. That’s the sign of a good performance.

While crafting the sensitive story, Mehta told Jugo Mobile that he was in touch with the late teen’s father, Manjit Virk.

“In fact, I was in touch with Reena’s father and we also bought her book,” says the showrunner. “That was a big part of the telling of the story.”

Ahead of the series’ release, Jugo Mobile spoke with Shephard and Mehta about their investigative process and how they gained a “local perspective” on the complex murder case.

Under the bridge was filmed in Vancouver, near the site of Virk’s murder, which Mehta says added depth to the story they set out to tell.

“Filming the show so close to where it happened in Vancouver, almost every week, we would run into someone who had some personal connection,” Mehta shares. “In the process, I feel that [the show] We began to imbibe that local perspective because we were surrounded by people who lived this.”

Godfrey, whose book won British Columbia’s National Canadian Non-Fiction Award in 2006 and was the first optional by Reese Witherspoon’s Type A Productions, deceased in 2022 due to complications from lung cancer. But before that, Shephard and Mehta consulted her while they were in the early stages of creating the series. They gained access to the writer’s “meticulous” archives and reviewed her “seven years of research.”

In an Instagram post from 2022, Shephard wrote“I have had the honor of interviewing @_rebecca_godfrey_ for the past three years for my new TV show. Under the bridge, a project that explores the life and murder of Reena Virk in 1997 in British Columbia. She has given me the greatest gift by allowing me into the beautiful mind of her and the seven years she spent living and writing this story. “I can’t wait to help bring this to life.”

During our interview, the show’s creator explained: “We had access to virtually every article that had been written about the crime, we found things that weren’t in Under the bridge and they were not in Manjit’s book. “We tried to zoom out as much as possible and include all the critical details that might have been left unresolved.”

The real story behind Under the bridge

Under the bridge is based on the actual murder of Virk in 1997. The case inspired Godfrey’s book, which was published in 2005.

On November 14, 1997, the 14-year-old girl was invited to a party by a group of teenagers, called the “Shoreline Six”, in Saanich, British Columbia, Canada. According ViceThe gathering began in a field behind Shoreline School, but was moved to a location under a bridge leading to the Gorge Canal after authorities arrived to shut down the party.

There, the teens beat Virk and left her with cigarette burns on her skin and other injuries. Virk walked away from her after one of the girls told the group to stop, but two of the attackers followed her.

The two dragged Virk to the other side of the bridge and stripped off her clothes before hitting her a second time. They disposed of her body in the water. After Virk’s body was found eight days later, the coroner ruled that her death was due to drowning, but found that the injuries she suffered were serious enough to have caused death anyway.

Vice writes that the coroner reported multiple blows sustained to the abdominal area, a crush seizure injury often seen in car accident victims, extensive bruising under the skin of the face, a sneaker print-shaped bruise on the back of his brain and eighteen pebbles in his lungs.

The beating was reportedly sparked by tensions Virk had with her schoolmates, and she was said to have been spreading rumors about one of the girls bullying her. During the investigation, there was widespread outcry in the media about teenage bullying among girls and many were pided over whether racism played a role in the murder.

Several teenagers received sentences for their participation.

MIGRATION: STREAM IT OR SKIP IT?

The essence: THE POND. AUTUMN. Mack (Kumail Nanjiani) scares the ducklings, Dax (Caspar Jennings) and Gwen (Tresi Gazal), about the outside world. It’s full of things that want to eat ducks like them, you know, eagles and vultures and stuff. It’s Stranger Danger City out there! That’s why they stay here at the pond, nesting in the hollow tree they call home and staying safe and never experiencing the cruel, mysterious, unpredictable, murderous world outside. It might be cold during the winter, but at least they won’t be chewed to death by Covid-stricken walruses, you know?

However, the mother of this small flock disagrees. Pam (Elizabeth Banks) doesn’t feel her husband’s anxieties. She is less neurotic. She is adventurous. Wise, perhaps. She understands that Mack needs to go out and overcome her fears and not impose them on her children. One day, some migratory birds land on the pond and introduce the idea of ​​migration to Dax, and that’s Pam’s chance to get her foot in the door. Maybe it’s time to get out of here. Jamaica seems nice. They could fly there with all the other birds and stop sitting around the boring pond like idiot chickens. The children totally agree. Enthusiastic. The world outside is big, beautiful and exciting and there will be risks, but without risks there are no rewards, right? Good.

Mack ponders the idea and soon realizes that he’s been squatting over Uncle Dan’s (Danny DeVito) sleeping body for hours. He shares his conundrum with Uncle Dan, who agrees with the sentiment of staying home. Now, Uncle Dan is a bit of a twisted loner, and Mack realizes that he can become Uncle Dan will sit here staring at the same pond water for the rest of his life. Then he wakes up Pam and the kids and they fly south, with Uncle Dan following them. He invited himself. I guess it could be worse, and every movie needs a little comic relief.

Will our protagonists survive the excursion? NO SPOILERS, but this is a kids movie, so yeah, probably.

Performance value Looking Audience: Awkwafina has one of those immediately recognizable voices, rich in character. She always inspires laughter. Here she too gets the best lines, reflecting the filmmaker’s wisdom.

Our opinion: Migration is not based on a Middle English chivalric romance written in alliterative verse such as The green knight, but they are structurally similar road stories consisting of a series of episodes in which the protagonists encounter strange and sometimes maddening characters between points A and B. Those characters are difficult to read: are they friendly or threatening? Either way, they frequently put our protagonists in danger, prompting them to look within themselves and reflect on who they are and what their purpose is on this mortal plane. Your experiences can be surreal, challenging and eye-opening. Travelers occasionally wander aimlessly and realize that tangents and distractions along the way may have more meaning than the direct linear ambitions of their quest.

Sir Gawain in The green knightconsciously or not, he sought self-knowledge, greater purpose and wisdom. MigrationMack clearly needs to overcome his fear of the outside world, and that realization finds him ping into the deep swamp of self-discovery, paying no attention to whatever hungry entities may lurk there. Is Mack’s adventure a quest for wisdom, or just an extended example of cartoon talking ducks farting? Well, perhaps there is wisdom in that act. I’m going to paraphrase a very wise man, Kurt Vonnegut, who stated that we were put on this planet to fart, and that it would be foolish to think otherwise. .

This is a long way of saying that there’s nothing wrong with farting, and that’s pretty much what it means. Migration does. I’d love to – love – I mean I dug up subtext about the nature of animals, their primal instinct to move great distances as an act of survival, but these ducks are clearly outside of recognizable evolutionary boundaries, as they are anthropomorphs that can speak, reason and feel emotions . Evolution in the film’s reality has pushed them into relatively mundane and recognizably human avenues defined by consciousness and self-awareness, things I probably don’t need to point out that ducks don’t typically possess.

Your level of fun will inevitably vary, especially if there are children in the room; The movie didn’t always make me laugh, but it made me smile, and there is wisdom in its simple message about the value of stepping out of your comfort zone. It also features a poop joke that’s much more sophisticated than most of the poop-based comedies we see in family movies. However, surprisingly for the genre, the only fart that occurs is purely metaphorical.

Our call: Migration It’s a little weak in the story and character department, but as you can see from the quasi-philosophical ramblings above, it has a blank slate quality that allows us to project meaning onto it, if you’re feeling it. Otherwise, it’s perfectly acceptable middle-of-the-road family entertainment with some beautifully animated sequences. TRANSMIT IT.
