The Houston Rockets were a team filled with top-end talent and deep playoff run aspirations after the Kevin Durant trade. However, Fred VanVleet’s torn ACL injury in the preseason derailed the hype, with Houston left scrambling to fix the glaring hole at the point guard position. While results have remained relatively consistent from last season to now, the team’s lack of a controller down the stretch has led to some tough losses, with the most recent example being Houston’s loss to the New York Knicks, where they blew an 18-point lead in the fourth quarter.

A development that some people noticed from the game was that guard Reed Sheppard, who knocked down 10 points in 21 minutes, was absent from the closing stretches. That begs the question: Could Reed Sheppard have helped Houston avoid their late-game collapse? And, could he be the answer going forward at the point guard slot as Houston gears for the playoffs?

SI’s @a_duckett thinks Reed Sheppard can “unlock” Houston’s offense if Ime Udoka plays him more

“Reed Sheppard is the only guard on the roster that can unlock the Rockets’ offense, whether by playmaking or long-range shooting. He can’t do that if he’s not on the floor.” pic.twitter.com/KvG1Cya3rN

— SleeperRockets (@SleeperRockets) February 22, 2026

In theory, Reed Sheppard can provide what Houston’s been missing

Reed Sheppard has stepped up and received more minutes this year compared to his rookie campaign, which can be partly attributed to necessity due to injuries. However, it seems like coach Ime Udoka still doesn’t fully trust him with minutes in crunch time. After the team’s crushing loss to the Knicks, Udoka demanded that he be “more demonstrative and get us into our sets.” For as much as Udoka can complain about Sheppard, the second-year player was absent for most of the collapse against New York.

In their next game against the Utah Jazz, which was a 125-105 win for Houston, Reed Sheppard displayed the qualities that have fans complaining about his usage. He shot well from the field, created offensive opportunities, and most importantly, controlled the pace of play. Last year, VanVleet was the controller, and although he wasn’t elite by any means, he provided a calming presence and poise when games got tight.

Reed Sheppard could step into that role, and he’s most likely the closest fit currently available. It’ll be up to Ime Udoka to decide if his young guard is ready to take the next step, but as of now, it seems like Sheppard still has a ways to go before earning that trust.

Prospecting is all about finding rare minerals and turning them into serious cash while completing the collection. While tools like shovels and pans are essential to your progress, Meteor Shards are a valuable resource in speeding up and making your grind easier. This special currency lets you buy a couple of useful items that help upgrade your stats and boost your efficiency in several ways. In this guide, we will break down how to get Shards in Prospecting and where to use them.

What Are Shards in Prospecting?

Before we get into the specifics, let’s talk about what Shards actually are. When you start playing Prospecting, you will notice a pink crystal icon above your money counter on the bottom right. The number beside the crystal is your Shard count.

As you collect more Shards during your journey, the number goes up in real time, letting you keep track of how many you have accumulated. You can then use the Shards to unlock more equipment slots, buy totems, and more, which we have explained below.

How to Get Shards in Prospecting

There are a few ways to obtain Shards in Prospecting, but keep in mind, there is no way to purchase them. This makes them even more valuable. That said, here are two easy ways to get Shards in the game:

1. Small Chance to Get Shards by Digging

You can earn Shards from regular digging once in a while. It’s random, so don’t count on getting a Shard every time you sift through sand in water. However, your chances go up when you dig Epic or higher rarity minerals, making deeper mining more rewarding.

So, make sure you are using better Prospecting pans and pray to the RNG Gods for Shards. If you’re rich enough, place the Sluices for a better chance of collecting Shards while farming minerals.

2. Complete NPC Quests to Gain Shards

Besides digging, one of the best ways to earn a bunch of Shards is by completing Prospecting NPC quests. Each quest gives you a good number of Shards, making it way more efficient than random digging and sifting sand.

If you’re just starting out, make sure to finish all the tutorial quests from John in the Rubble Creek Sands area. It’s a simple way to get an early bump in Shard count. Sadly, you don’t get any Shards from Prospecting codes, but they do give you some cash to help you get off the ground.

Best Uses of Shards in Prospecting

Shards have multiple uses that can seriously boost your farming potential. Here are all the ways you can spend Shards in Prospecting to get the most out of your grind:

1. Buy Totems

Along with unlocking ring slots, Shards can also be used to buy powerful totems in Prospecting, and they are amazing. There are two totems in the game: the Luck Totem (2x Luck) for 300 Shards and the Strength Totem (2x Dig Speed) for 180 Shards.

Each totem lasts for 1800 seconds (or 30 minutes) and provides a temporary boost to your stats.

To get the most out of them, it’s best to use them during a Meteor Shower event, where rare minerals and modifiers are more likely to appear. This combo can give your farming speed and rewards a massive boost.

2. Unlock Ring Slots

The first thing you should spend your Shards on is unlocking Ring Slots in the Prospector’s Kit. There are four slots in total, and each one costs Shards to unlock. These slots let you equip crafted rings, which give powerful stat boosts depending on what you craft.

You can check Prospecting crafting recipes and choose the ones that fit your playstyle. Whether you want more luck, faster digging, or modified minerals, more ring slots will increase your chances.

3. Buy Potions

If you are looking for even more stat boosts, potions are another great way to spend your Shards in Prospecting. Here are the three potion options available in Prospecting:

Merchant’s Potion: 200 Shards

Greater Luck Potion: 30 Shards

Greater Capacity Potion: 20 Shards

The Merchant’s Potion gives you a whopping +100% sell boost, letting you earn double the cash from selling minerals. On the other hand, the Greater Luck Potion boosts the luck stat by +10, while the Greater Capacity Potion increases your mineral carrying capacity in a pan by 50.

All potions last for 1200 seconds (or 20 minutes), so be sure to use them during longer farming sessions or special events.

That is everything you should know about Meteor Shards in Prospecting. So, how many Shards have you collected so far in the game? Let us know your farming tricks in the comments below.

The madness system is what sets Wuchang: Fallen Feathers apart from other games in its genre, and you’ll need to learn how it works, how to cure it, and how to use it to your advantage in order to survive.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is the latest Soulslike looking to make a name for itself in the crowded genre dominated by Dark Souls, Elden Ring, and Black Myth: Wukong. With so many to choose from these days, games need to do something to stand out from the crowd.

Article continues after ad

While Wuchang certainly does that with its Ming Dynasty setting and protagonist, it’s the Madness system that really sets it apart.

Over the course of your journey, you’ll need to both battle against and harness the power of your ever-slipping sanity to overcome the many challenges in your way. So, here’s a full breakdown of everything you need to know about Wuchang’s marquee feature.

Article continues after ad

What is Madness in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers?

Madness reflects Wuchang’s current state of mind as the battles against The Feathering, the mysterious disease that has infected her and the other inhabitants of Shu, and threatens to turn her into a gruesome monster.

Article continues after ad

Dying or defeating non-feathered enemies slowly increases your Madness, as displayed by the meter on the left of the screen. Meanwhile, killing feathered enemies or clearing a key target, like a boss, reduces your madness.

Wuchang’s eyes will glow rate once she hits 50% Madness.

If the Madness bar is less than 50% full, you only lose a small amount of Red Mercury, the game’s currency and upgrade material, upon death. If it’s between 50% and 90% you’ll lose a significant chunk, and dying at 90% or above will cause you to lose it all.

Article continues after ad

Once the meter is full, “Madness Descends” on Wuchang, meaning you’ll do more damage but also take more for as long as you’re in the maddened state.

If you die while at full madness, your Inner Demon will appear wherever you were defeated, unless in a boss fight. This powerful enemy will attack you and everything around it, and being defeated by it will cause you to lose all of your madness, but also any resources you dropped.

How to reduce madness

There are many ways to reduce your madness in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, the first of which is simply being killed by your Inner Demon. However, this means you have to die twice in the same location, and you’ll lose all of your Red Mercury.

The best way is to pray to the God of Shu, which can be done at the statue in the Shu Sanctum. You’ll visit this location pretty early on your journey, and you can fast travel back there from any Shrine scattered around the map.

Article continues after ad

However, you’ll need either Divine Gifts or Divine Gift Shards, a resource found by exploring the various nooks and crannies of each area.

These will both bring your Madness back down when you’ve hit the maximum level, but if you want to stop yourself from getting to that stage, defeating any feathered enemy or major target will also slightly reduce it.

Article continues after ad

That being said, this can be quite tricky to force, unless you’re deliberately backtracking and seeking out the right opponents.

Best ways to use Madness to your advantage

If you’re new to the soulslike genre or just finding your footing, the Madness system might seem like a punishment at first. One that actively makes you easier to kill and spawns a feral demon to hunt you down if you die too often.

However, to really take your build to the next level, you need to use Madness by unlocking skills and buffs that make you even stronger once it accumulates.

If you head to the Impetus Repository at any Shrine and follow the branch to the left, you’ll see a number of special effects directly tied to Madness. For example, one increases the Feathering Attack Power of your weapon once you go beyond 50%.

Article continues after ad

Others are tied to specific weapon classes. So, if you prefer to use Longswords, you could have the ability to regain stamina with a Blink Kick when above 90%.

Article continues after ad

If you fully embrace the Madness, you’ll find yourself in a situation where you actually want to lose your sanity in order to make your character as powerful as possible, especially during boss fights. For this, you can use Maddening Incense or use the Invoke feature to immediately increase your level.

Article continues after ad

Of course, you can choose to keep your Madness down if you want a more level-headed approach, but the damage buffs and extra effects on offer will make life much easier in the late game.

2024 Boston Celtics Finals MVP Jaylen Brown got surprisingly candid about his nine-year tenure with the franchise during an expansive new summer interview with Noa Dalzell of SB Nation.

“It’s been a long journey here in Boston,” Brown said. “I’ve had to deal with a lot. I feel like I haven’t been able to be myself in certain capacities — because of the politics, and because maybe people feel uncomfortable with who I am.”

Brown has been an oftentimes outspoken advocate for social change. An MIT Media Lab fellow in 2019, Brown created the Bridge Program — a mentorship program for Boston-area students of color looking explore STEM program careers. He has strived to use his platform to deal with income inequality and education disparities.

On the court, too, Brown explains that he’s been frustrated with some of the ways the Celtics have used him.

“I disagree with a lot of things,” Brown said. “I’ve had to change roles, styles. I’ve had to do things that other players of my talent just haven’t had to do, and I’ve been okay with them, because I’ve always been a team guy. I feel like sometimes that gets taken for granted.”

During his first few seasons in the league, Brown was coached by now-general manager Brad Stevens, and saw his role fluctuate as he adjusted to more established All-Stars like Isaiah Thomas, Kyrie Irving and Al Horford.

Now, the Celtics belong to Brown and six-time All-Star Jayson Tatum.

Last year with the Celtics, the 6-foot-6 University of California at Berkeley product averaged 22.2 points on .463/.324/.764 shooting splits, 5.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists, while making his fourth All-Star team. The 28-year-old likely would have been a prime contender to notch his second All-NBA honor, but missed out by only playing in 63 contests due to injuries. Players need to be available for 65 or more games to be named to an All-NBA team.

Boston has appeared in two NBA Finals in the last four seasons, winning in 2024.

“I’m extremely grateful that we won a championship,” Brown said. “I’m extremely grateful that we’ve been able to have success, and that’s what it’s about. It’s not all about you, it’s not all about me, you know what I mean? I want the next generation to know that as well — it’s okay to play your role on the team. It’s okay to do whatever, but don’t let that define you.”

At 28, he has absolutely come into his own. Next season, he has an opportunity to shine brighter than ever, as Tatum will miss most — if not all — of 2025-26 while he recuperates from an Achilles tendon tear suffered during Boston’s eventual second round playoff series loss to the New York Knicks.

MORE NEWS: Celtics could be considering multiple drastic trades for one key reason

After leading the Knicks to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in 25 seasons, Tom Thibodeau was fired. New York will begin a coaching search while Thibodeau likely scratches his head, wondering why he was let go after having such a successful stretch with the team.

BREAKING: The New York Knicks are relieving Tom Thibodeau of his duties as head coach, sources tell ESPN. Thibodeau led the Knicks to their first East Finals in 25 years, made playoffs in 4 of 5 years and led Knicks to consecutive 50+ win seasons for first time since the 1990s. pic.twitter.com/B7w8KhoEcF

The Knicks front office had to feel pretty good about this decision. They will owe Thibodeau at least $30 million guaranteed from an extension he signed recently. The now former head coach led New York to the playoffs in four of the five years he was at the helm. Thibodeau won a playoff series in each of the last three years. The Knicks had won a playoff series only once in the two decades before he was hired.

Every coach in the league will have their own philosophy and approach to the game and how players are used. Thibodeau was known for putting a lot of pressure on his starters, without relying too much on the bench.

Here is how Thibodeau’s coaching philosophy could have gotten him fired by the Knicks.

MORE THIBODEAU:

Knicks starters minutes

Thibodeau’s philosophy made sense. He wanted his best players on the court as much as possible. The only problem is that his players discussed how many minutes they were playing, and there was concern it would cause them extra wear and tear down the stretch of the season.

Here is where the Knicks’ starting five ranks for minutes per game in the league.*

Mikal Bridges – 37.42 minutes per game (led NBA)

Josh Hart – 37.25 minutes per game (4th in the NBA)

O.G. Anunoby – 37.07 minutes per game (5th in the NBA)

Jalen Brunson – 35.92 minutes per game (13th in the NBA)

Karl-Anthony Towns – 35.07 minutes per game (22nd in the NBA)

*stats include regular and postseason, and players had to play at least 58 games.

Bridges actually talked about the high amount of minutes earlier in the 2024-2025 season, and said that he asked Thibodeau to lower their minutes.

“Sometimes it’s not fun on the body. You’ll want that as a coach but also talked to him a little bit knowing that we’ve got a good enough team where our bench guys can come in and we don’t need to play 48 (minutes), 47.

We’ve got a lot of good guys on this team that can take away minutes. Which helps the defense, helps the offense, helps tired bodies being out there and giving up all these points. It helps just keeping fresh bodies out there.”

However, Thibodeau said that the conversation never happened. He also expounded on his philosophy and maintained that his players don’t play more than others.

“The facts are the facts: Your wings play more. So they’re matched up with primary scorers. So the way it works is if Jayson Tatum is in the game and Jaylen Brown is in the game, OG will be in the game and Mikal will be in the game. Try to keep the matchups. When you look at the league, all those guys are playing 35, 36 minutes — whether it’s [Kevin] Durant, Tatum or a Brown. A wing is going to play more. They’re primary wing defenders. That’s the way the league works.”

ESPN’s Shams Charania cited this as playing into the decision to fire Thibodeau. He said the Knicks front office might be looking for someone who “might trust his bench more” or “more lenient on his principles.”

“The New York Knicks might be looking for a guy that trusts their bench more..

For better or for worse Tom Thibodeau had a way that he was gonna operate..

Knicks bench minutes

The Knicks didn’t have another player in the top 100 for minutes played. If you look at just the regular season, New York’s five starters all played between 35.0 and 37.6 minutes per game.

The bench was shallow, with only two players averaging more than 20 minutes per game.

Here’s a look at how many minutes the bench players averaged during the regular season with at least 35 games played.

Miles McBridge 24.9

Precious Achiuwa 20.5

Landry Shamet 15.2

Cameron Payne 15.1

Jericho Sims 10.8

Tyler Kolek 7.2
