With an up and down 2024-25 NBA season, the Minnesota Timberwolves have an important offseason ahead of them. The 2025 NBA Draft will be a great place to start to continue building around their star Anthony Edwards.
In last year’s draft, Minnesota came out of the draft with both Rob Dillingham and Terrence Shannon Jr. in the first round. For this year’s draft, the focus may be adding some additional support to the frontcourt.
Kevin O’Connor of Yahoo! Sports predicts the Timberwolves will select Arizona Wildcats forward Carter Bryant with the No. 18 pick in the upcoming draft.
“Bryant is a rangy, athletic forward who projects as a highly versatile defender. He’s raw on offense though, as shown by his up-and-down performances with Arizona throughout the tournament and all season long. Beyond his cutting, he needs to improve as a shooter to earn minutes in high-leverage games. But with a pricy frontcourt, the Timberwolves should be making an upside investment at the forward spot,” O’Connor wrote.
In his freshman season, Bryant has had a season similar to the Timberwolves’. A season with some highs and lows pretty much summarizes both. He’s had a few standout performances throughout this season, but nothing too substantial.
When it comes to mid-to-late first-round draft picks, they’re mostly players that will begin in the NBA G League. As a 6’8″ athletic forward, in an ideal system, he could thrive as an elite defender off the bench. This would fit right in with the defensive mindset already intact in Minnesota.

As O’Connor mentioned in his breakdown on Bryant, improving his shooting ability is a must if he wants to play at the next level. He only shoots 46% from the field and 37% from beyond the arc. On paper, it sounds a lot like Jaden McDaniels, but it will be exciting to see how the draft unfolds for the Timberwolves.
