Tottenham Hotspur’spursuit of Yoane Wissa began in a rather low-key fashion in the June, when the club contacted Brentford after watching the forward enjoy his most productive Premier League campaign to date.
Wissa had scored 19 goals without penalties and was involved in over half of Brentford’s league goals, forming a powerful strike partnership with Bryan Mbeumo that kept the Bees clear of the relegation fight.
Spurs needed to add to their front line after coming up short in big games last season, and of Wissa’s ability to stretch defenses and be a consistent finisher made him an appealing option.
However, when they made an enquiry, Brentford made it clear they wouldn’t even consider selling unless the offer was at least £50 million [$67m].
Since then, the North London side have been busy finalizing other moves, including turning Mathys Tel and Kevin Danso’s loan deals into permanent signings and bringing in Mohamed Kudus from West Ham in a £55 million [$74m] deal that could add midfield creativity.
Even though there has been no direct contact between Tottenham and Brentford in the past two weeks, Standard Sport has reported that the club still considers Wissa a serious option, especially with uncertainty surrounding the futures of some current attackers.

Nottingham Forest have also re-entered the race, reportedly submitting a new bid close to £20 million [$27m] earlier this week.
That offer was rejected just like their previous £22 million [$29m] bid in January, which fell well short of Brentford’s demands.
The story may take another twist as one more Premier League club prepares to act.
Newcastle United also interested in Tottenham target
According to The Daily Mail, Newcastle United are also closely tracking Wissa this summer and may consider a formal bid if Brentford soften their stance.
Brentford are facing a summer of major transition after losing head coach Thomas Frank to Tottenham and captain Christian Nørgaard to Arsenal, and sources say the club is unlikely to sell both Wissa and Mbeumo unless they receive offers that are simply too big to refuse.
