The police officer involved in Tyreek Hill’s detention has been named by the Miami-Dade Police Department.
More details continue to emerge about the incident that took place outside Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. The Dolphins’ star receiver was on his way to his team’s season opener against the Jaguars when he was handcuffed during a traffic stop.
The Miami-Dade Police Department has placed one of the four officers involved in the incident on administrative assignment. The officer’s name was released Tuesday.

The officer who arrested Tyreek Hill
The officer who arrested Hill was Danny Torres, a 27-year veteran of the Miami-Dade police force.
The Miami-Dade Police Department announced the same day of the traffic stop that Torres had been placed on “administrative duty.” The department released another statement Tuesday naming Torres.
“Officer Danny Torres, a 27-year veteran, continues to perform his administrative duties as the Internal Affairs investigation continues,” Miami-Dade police said in a statement. “We will provide further information as it becomes available pending the results of the investigation.”
When told an officer had been placed on leave, Hill said after Sunday’s game: “That tells you everything you need to know.”
Torres’ lawyers, Ignacio Alvarez and Israel Reyes, issued a statement Monday demanding their client’s “immediate reinstatement.” At the time of their statement, the officer’s name had not been released.
“We urge all parties to refrain from making public statements that could misrepresent our client’s actions and mislead the public about Mr. Hill’s detention,” Alvarez said in the statement.

Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, has requested that Torres and the other officers involved in his client’s detention be removed from their posts.
“For me, personally, I think the officers that did this to Tyreek should not be in this situation — they should be released,” Rosenhaus said during an appearance on “The Dan Le Batard Show” Tuesday.
“Look at the guy who kicked him. That guy should be fired. This is out of control. The guy who jumped on him and choked him? There’s no place for a cop wearing a badge that works like that, when Tyreek wasn’t aggressive, violent or fighting back in any way.”
“It was horrible the way they treated him. They didn’t treat him like a human being.”
Torres’ legal team reached out to Hill in an attempt to apologize, the Dolphins star said, but the request was denied.

Hill’s attorney formally requested the firing of Officer Danny Torres days after the incident, calling Torres’ actions “excessive, escalating and reckless.”

Hill confirmed he wanted Torres “gone” from the police department while speaking to reporters Wednesday.
Why was Tyreek Hill arrested?
Hill was officially cited for reckless driving and seat belt violations after reportedly speeding on his way to Hard Rock Stadium. quote revealed he was traveling at an “estimated speed of 60 mph,” according to a “visual estimate.”
The South Florida Police Benevolent Association released more details in a statement Monday, saying Hill was never arrested but rather “briefly detained for officer safety.”
The police union said Hill “failed to immediately cooperate with officers at the scene” after he was arrested for “conducting in a manner that placed himself and others in great danger.”
Miami Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill was “uncooperative” with police and “initiated this unfortunate incident,” according to the Miami-Dade police union.

Video showed officers handcuffing Hill and placing him on the ground, with one officer at one point having his knee on the receiver’s back. Other Dolphins players came to the scene to help Hill, and defensive end Calais Campbell was also handcuffed at one point but was not charged.
