WIMBLEDON, LONDON — At least one American will be in the women’s Wimbledon quarterfinals as Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula battle it out on Centre Court.
The pair face off as the top two highest remaining seeds and a chance to reach the semifinal at the grass-court grand slam for the first time in their careers.
Pegula boasts a 5-3 lead in head-to-head competition but their previous two meetings on grass have seen them win a match each.
The 32-year-old has already seen off fellow American Iva Jovic in their Fourth of July encounter but faces a sterner test against a high-flying Gauff, whose serves have caused her opponents real problems so far.

8:15 a.m. ET: Is age just a number or will experience count for everything? Of the eight quarterfinalists left in the women’s draw, Pegula is the oldest at 32 years of age. Gauff is the second youngest still competing at 22.
And given this is the world No.4 (Pegula) vs. the world No.7 (Gauff) as the highest remaining players in the draw, victory today for either would make them the firm favorite to go on an win the entire tournament.
Gauff has two grand slams under her belt, Pegula is still chasing her first.
7:30 a.m. ET: Today marks the ninth time these two have faced off against one another and it’s Pegula who boasts the 5-3 advantage.
Their last meeting game at the WTA Finals last year where Pegula won in three sets.
Of their eight previous meetings, only two of them have gone three sets with Pegula winning both.
