“This is an old-school heavyweight fight that looks like it’s been in the making for a long time,” Queensberry Promotions’ Frank Warren said via ESPN.
“The fight between two London heavyweights for a place at the top table promises to be a spectacular fight. The winner returns to action and the loser has nowhere real to go.”
Joyce (16-2) is a former British, Commonwealth and European heavyweight champion. The 38-year-old won the WBO interim heavyweight title but lost it following two consecutive losses against Zhilei Zhang. He bounced back against Kash Ali in March.
Chisora (34-13) is looking to get back into title contention after losing to Tyson Fury in 2022 for the WBC heavyweight title, his third loss against Fury. “Del Boy” last fought a year ago, beating Gerald Washington. The 40-year-old is two years older than Joyce, but believes his experience will be a factor in the fight.
“Joe is not going to win,” Chisora said via BBC.com“He can train all he wants, but when it comes to the real fight, I’m fiercer than him. I’m not afraid of anyone. There’s no need to measure myself in the first round, I’m going in.”
