After a fantastic offseason, Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams has been making waves, with the third-year receiver making his first start of 2024 in a Week 1 win over the The Los Angeles Rams.
Williams had a career-high 121 yards on five receptions while adding 13 yards rushing on one attempt. Williams’ touchdown came on a 52-yard pass. His 121 receiving yards led the team, as did his nine targets and five receptions.
“He showed up,” Lions head coach Dan Campbell said of Williams after Week 1, per Nolan Bianchi of the Detroit News“It was a big game … and the best part is he didn’t even play his best ball. … But it also shows the work he’s put in. … He continues to improve.”
Just as Williams appeared ready to take flight, he suffered an ankle injury that limited him from practice all week and left his status up in the air for Week 2 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneersas it is listed as doubtful.

Despite the questionable label, Detroit Lions receiver Jameson Williams is still expected to play in Week 2 against the Buccaneers, according to Jordan Schultz, an NFL insider.

Schultz’s report doesn’t indicate that Williams might have a limited workload, so there’s no concern about that at this point.
Tips for Jameson Williams as a starter or backup
After putting up career-best numbers in Week 1, it’s clear Williams is ready for the breakthrough campaign many expected him to have. He still has to compete with receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and tight end Sam LaPorta for targets, but Williams is certainly worth a look as a versatile player in Week 2.
