Stephen Curry doesn’t have much left in his basketball career.

After winning Olympic gold in Paris, Curry went on to win four NBA titles, two league MVP awards, a Finals MVP award and a place on the NBA’s all-time leading three-point shooters list. While Curry and his success are synonymous with the Warriors, rumors are rife that he is leaving.

As Golden State retools to field a competitive team around Curry, fans are keeping a close eye on the 36-year-old’s social media activities. After an Instagram collaboration with LeBron James raised eyebrows, a change to Curry’s Instagram bio is setting off alarm bells.

Here’s why fans are speculating a change of scenery could be on the horizon for Curry.

Will Stephen Curry leave the Warriors?

Curry remains under contract with the Warriors through the 2025-26 season, meaning that if he were to leave early, it would be via a trade. A curious change to Curry’s Instagram profile has some speculating that he is looking for a change.

As a Curry fan page with the handle @GameOnSteph_ on X (formerly Twitter) pointed out, Curry removed “@Warriors Guard” from his bio, replacing it with “Olympic Gold Medalist.”

Why might Curry remove his Warriors affiliation from his Instagram bio? There are several potential reasons.

If Curry wanted to keep his bio short and limited to two lines, there’s a chance he would have made a one-for-one trade to add his most recent basketball accomplishment. There’s also the logic that Curry views Olympic gold as a more important honor than an NBA affiliation.

It could of course also be an attempt to put some pressure on the Warriors’ management.

For those looking to read between the lines, there might be something deeper to Curry’s decision to remove his affiliation with the Warriors. We’re not far removed from Klay Thompson deleting Warriors content from his Instagram feed before moving on via free agency.

That said, Curry’s stream still features plenty of Warriors content.

Regardless of what Instagram’s change may or may not mean, it raises a very real concern about Golden State’s immediate future. After finishing 46-36 and missing the 2024 NBA Playoffs, the Warriors were unable to make any meaningful improvements to their roster this offseason.

Although he’s 36, Curry continues to play at an All-NBA level. Golden State’s status as a contender depends on the contributions of younger players like Trayce Jackson-Davis, Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody and Brandin Podziemski.

As things stand, the Warriors are projected to finish in the bottom half of the Western Conference. As a generational talent, that might not be enough for Curry, who could add to his legacy with another deep postseason run.

There may not be enough smoke to set off all the alarms just yet, but given how the offseason has gone for Golden State, Curry’s social media activity naturally has fans on alert.
