TCL TV is one of the best-selling budget TV brands and its excellent picture quality and price have attracted customers from all over the world. When text-to-speech is activated, your TV will begin reading the names of menu options out loud.
Continue reading to learn how to disable this feature and prevent it from being activated accidentally. Plus, how to fix other common TCL TV problems.
Why is my TCL TV talking to me?
TCL TVs are built with “Audio Guide” assistance to help you navigate on-screen menus. When text-to-speech (TTS) is enabled, the audio guide will read on-screen text elements, such as the names of menu options.
The feature can be enabled through “Settings” or by quickly pressing the “*” button (also known as options or star button) on your remote four times. So if TTS is enabled, it could be that the star button was accidentally pressed four times. Fortunately, the feature can be disabled at any time.
How to turn off voice on a TCL TV
Follow these steps to turn off the text-to-speech feature on your TCL TV.
- Press the “Home” button on your remote control to access the main screen.

- Scroll up or down to choose “Settings.”

- Press the right arrow, then choose “Accessibility.”

- Press the right arrow again and choose “TalkBack.”

- Press the right arrow once more to select “OFF” and deactivate the function.

To prevent the TTS function from being accidentally activated by the star button shortcut, you can disable it.
How to Disable Voice Shortcut on a TCL TV
