Bayer Leverkusen remains undefeated in the Bundesliga and leads the table with a 13-point lead over current champions Bayern Munich.
No team other than Bayern has won the German Bundesliga since 2011/12, but Xabi Alonso is closing in on a magnificent achievement early in his coaching career.
His stellar season in charge of Leverkusen has seen him attract maximum attention across Europe and, most recently, he was the favorite to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool following his departure at the end of the season.
However, to the delight of Leverkusen fans, Alonso put an end to the rumors and confirmed that he will continue as coach of the German club next season.

When can Bayer Leverkusen win the Bundesliga?
Leverkusen have only dropped points on four occasions this season and their recent 2-1 win over Hoffenheim on March 30 took them to 73 points, the second-highest total at this point in a Bundesliga season.
The only team that surpassed that feat was Pep Guardiola’s Bayern in 2013/14, which accumulated 77 points on matchday 27 and finally won the title.
Following Bayern’s 2-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund on March 30, the gap to the league leader has widened to 13 points. In the history of the Bundesliga, no team with such a substantial lead at the top has failed to lift the trophy at the end of the season.
Bayern’s 11-year dominance appears to be over.
With seven games remaining, the earliest possible date to secure the title will be Matchday 29 (April 12/13/14). For this to happen, Leverkusen would need wins against Union Berlin and Werder Bremen, while Bayern would have to suffer defeats against both Heidenheim and Cologne.
