Showtime streaming service is shutting down: here’s when and where it’s going

Last year, premium cable channel Showtime’s offerings were folded into the larger streaming service Paramount Plus as part of a new integrated offering called Paramount Plus With Showtime. This premium tier included a Showtime “channel” within the Paramount Plus app that offered ad-free access to Showtime original series, including “Yellowjackets,” “A Gentleman in Moscow,” “The Curse” and “Billions,” as well as like Cabler’s impressive movie lineup.

When the switch was initially made, current independent Showtime subscribers who signed up directly through the app or with a major cable provider were able to switch to the new plan fairly easily, gaining instant access to an expanded library of content right from the start. included Paramount Plus. in the cost of your subscription.

Although the standalone Showtime app remained available after the integration debuted, the end is nigh for those who haven’t made the switch yet, as an official shutdown date has been announced for the original Showtime app.

Showtime app will officially close on April 30

After nine years, the official Showtime app will officially close forever on April 30, 2024, according to a notice on the official Showtime website.

Subscribers who signed up directly with Showtime should check their email for information on how to transfer their account to a Paramount Plus plan with Showtime. Additional information on how current subscribers can make the switch is also available in the Showtime help center.

Subscribers who are not eligible for a transfer because they subscribed with a third party will need to cancel their Showtime subscription and then re-subscribe to the Paramount Plus plan with Showtime.

Currently, the Paramount Plus with Showtime ad-free plan costs $11.99 per month (after a 7-day free trial) and is available to subscribe directly on the Paramount Plus website, through major cable providers and third parties such as Amazon, Roku and Google Play/App Store.

Although there is a less expensive ad-supported tier for Paramount Plus, the $11.99 ad-free premium option is currently the only way to continue accessing Showtime’s library of streaming content.
