How much more drama can Netflix have? Selling the OC Tell us about the willing or unwilling relationship between Tyler Stanaland and Alex Hall? Now in its third season, the show about the glamorous real estate agents of the Oppenheim Group is still selling beautiful homes and malicious inter-office disputes against the glittering backdrop of Laguna Beach, but at this point the stories are starting to feel a little repetitive. .
I SELL THE OC (SEASON 3): STREAM IT OR SKIP IT?
Initial shot: Real estate agent Alex Hall walks through the doors of the Oppenheim Group offices and explains: “The Oppenheim Group has a reputation for having very high standards. And contrary to people’s beliefs, so am I. And I’m not going to let anything get in the way of that.” Even though this show is essentially a reality show, it usually begins its seasons with Alex narrating something big and bold about the state of real estate and/or his life, which always gives the impression that this show is a little more yours than anyone else’s.
The essence: This is the third season of Selling the OC, the show about real estate agents working at the Orange County branch of The Oppenheim Group, owned by brothers Brett and Jason Oppenheim. You know, you wouldn’t be reading this if you weren’t already familiar with it. Last season, amid the real estate listing drama, the main story was about simmering sexual tension between Alex Hall and her colleague Tyler Stanaland, which culminated in Tyler revealing her romantic feelings for Hall and kissing her. This season, although we’ve picked up pretty soon after, things between Hall and Tyler are tense. That beautiful friendship they shared is awkward and strange, in part because right after they kissed, Tyler went on a surf safari around the world and left Hall wondering about the state of their relationship. (Meanwhile, think she is the one who avoids it. Communication is key, people!)
So while Hall and Tyler’s thing this season is figuring out where their relationship is going, the rest of the agents have their own THINGS. What Brandi has going for her is that she hopes to use her husband Sean’s contacts in the sports world to court professional athletes and become an elite sports real estate agent. The THING about Alexandra Jarvis is that she just eloped to Italy. The THING about Alexandra Rose is that I don’t think she has a THING. The THING about Kayla is that she has landed her first really huge property of hers ($28.5 million), a life-changing sale for her, assuming she actually succeeds. Gio’s THING is that she’s going to undermine Kayla and, if possible, take that list away from her even if it makes him look like an entitled jerk. (Ahem, further from an entitled idiot.)
And, as always, the Oppenheims’ THING is to let their office continue to be the three-ring circus where all these shenanigans take place.
Our opinion: If you were to look Selling the OC Without reading any gossip about it, I’m sure it would still be entertaining. But, as with most great reality shows, your Bomb rules And all that, what happens in real time increases our interest in the program. We currently know that Alex Hall and Tyler are out (he blocked her on Insta!) and that he left his job at the Oppenheim Group some time after season two. Knowing that and anticipating how these moments might play out later in the season definitely adds to the addictive quality and only further cements the fact that real estate is secondary to real estate agents.
The show’s supporting cast ranges from awkwardly likable (Gio), occasionally tolerable (Polly), barely present (Austin), and unnecessarily unlikeable (Group O’s bell), but somehow, it’s still compelling (in a way that usually makes me ask “Why do I find this so compelling???”) The answer is, most likely, that these are very pretty people with self-awareness, charm and a sense of humor; they are already successful salespeople in the world of real estate, and that skill has also come in handy when it comes to selling their brand of drama. However, with Hall and Tyler’s relationship being the crux of the show, the real question seems to be what the final destination will be. of the show if he leaves forever… Will Selling the OC’Does the listing expire? Will the newly created San Diego branch take over? I guess it depends on the market.
Sex and skin: Not much, but there is talk of sex, cunnilingus, and as always, there are some revealing outfits that define the “OC listing agent casual” clothing genre.
Parting Shot: Gio, having hosted a runner’s listing party at the exact same time Kayla hosted her own runner’s event, encourages a group of people at Kayla’s event to follow him to his speedboat, removing them from their group and leading them to your own party. “Who’s ready to see a better running back tour?” he asks smugly.
Performance worth seeing: Nashville native and relative newcomer Ali Harper is a breath of fresh air in the fish-out-of-water/newbie role. Although she seems like a beautiful new agent in the Oppenheim offices, especially when she deals with her fellow agents, in her confessionals she seems almost folksy and naive when she says things like, “I’m chasing and following someone.” a professional career that is becoming the ultimate goal. I mean, for the love of all things holy, she wouldn’t pay for this apartment or go eat at vegan places if she knew it wouldn’t be worth it.”
Memorable dialogue: “You confessed your love and she didn’t reciprocate?” Austin asks his colleague Tyler during a conversation about Alex Hall. “I mean, sort of,” Tyler laughs. I mean, no, that’s not really what happened, is it? Alex herself said that Tyler confessed his love for her and then went on vacation without contacting her, so it feels like he’s creating an image of an abandoned man who just wants this woman to love him and she refuses. . As I said last season, the show rarely holds Tyler accountable for the role she plays in the drama surrounding her own love life, and I fear the same thing could be happening this season.
Our call: Another season, another dramatic arc of professional relationships coming and going and we have to wait until the end for big reveals. Selling the OC It sticks closely to its classic formula, interspersing real estate drama with romantic drama, and thanks to its relatively short runtime of about 35 minutes per episode, it makes for a juicy and addictive binge.
