An unlikely challenger in Steve Erceg looks to dethrone the UFC flyweight champion in his backyard at UFC 301 on May 4. The fight in Brazil and preliminary action are broadcast on ESPN+ in the US.
Pantoja is on a five-fight winning streak, with three fights going the distance. “El Caníbal” defeated Brandon Moreno for the flyweight gold, and is looking for his second successful defense of the title.
Erceg is ranked 10th in the UFC flyweight rankings. The Australian is on an eleven-fight winning streak and is 3-0 in the octagon. His impressive win against Matt Schnell caught the attention of the UFC, and a busy pision meant he was the next man to challenge Pantoja.
Erceg, the underdog, understands how dangerous Patoja can be, given his eight wins by knockout, ten by submission and nine wins by decision. Erceg has given flowers to Pantoja, but believes there is a way to end her reign.

“I truly believe it’s his mental strength,” Erceg said. Presentation radio through Shepherd dog. “Sometimes they hit him, they put him in bad times, but he keeps going. He gets tired and finds a way to keep pushing throughout the fight. Someone who is not going to give up is obviously a very dangerous person.
“He has great skills outside of that, but some people with great skills, they’re not winning the way they expected, they break down. But I don’t think he’ll break. “Someone has to take it away.”
Pantoja will not be the only one who will perform in front of his compatriots. José Aldo competes in the cage for the first time since 2022 to fight Jonathan Martínez. The former UFC featherweight champion and recent UFC Hall of Famer has one fight left with the promotion and is looking to make the definitive return, even if it may be for the last time.
