How to Record a Show on Hulu Live

We may be living in the age of streaming, but live television isn’t completely dead yet. One of the prime examples that live TV is alive and well is the popularity of the live TV feature on Hulu.

However, if you’re old school in this regard, you might want to record a show if you can’t watch it. Hulu has gone above and beyond to give you great features in this department.

However, many people are still unaware of this feature. So, with this crowd in mind, let’s look at how you can record a show on Hulu live.

You probably know that online services come in different shapes and sizes for different platforms. The live TV version of Hulu is available on a wide variety of devices, from iPhones and iPads to Android and Apple TV.

Fortunately, live recording works similarly on all supported platforms.

How to Record Hulu for Live TV

Recording live on Hulu requires adding a live TV show to My things. Therefore, there is no need to bother recording a program manually. Anything you add to My Stuff will automatically be recorded when it’s streamed. Plus, you can stream it later at any time (more on this later). For now, let’s see how to record Hulu for Live TV.

1. Open the Hulu app (iOS), Hulu for Live TV (most other devices supported), or open it within a browser
2. Review the Live TV program options and find the program you want to record
3. Navigate to the Description screen of said program
4. Select My things either my episodes
   (depending on what is displayed on your device)

Once you’ve done this, the show will automatically record when it airs. The recording is stored on your Cloud DVR.

Recording options

Just because you’ve added content to My Stuff/My Episodes doesn’t mean you have to record it. This section actually serves as quick access to that content.

Whenever you add a show to My Stuff/My Episodes, it will automatically record new content once it airs. However, you can toggle the Record series option disabled to avoid overwhelming the Cloud DVR (more on this later).

The same goes for your favorite sports teams. Add your team to My Stuff/My Episodes and Hulu will automatically record each of your team’s games. Turn off the Record games Present and follow your teams’ events.

Streaming recorded content

Naturally, after you record your show/movie/sports event, you’ll want to access it and watch it. As long as the content remains on your Cloud DVR (think of it as your personal cloud storage space for now), you can access the recorded show and stream it at any time. Here’s how to access your recorded content.

1. Open the Hulu app
2. Gonna My things/my episodes. The location of this feature depends on the device, but look for an icon that represents a white square with a check mark.
3. You will find two options available: TV shows and Films (Sports and news programs and the like are found in television programs)
4. Now, simply select the recorded content you want to watch and play it.

Delete content

Your Cloud DVR storage space is limited. So if you plan on recording a lot of live TV, you’ll have to start deleting things very early. Luckily, deleting content is as easy as recording it.

1. Open the Hulu app
2. Navigate to My things/my episodes
3. Go to the right in the horizontal menu and select Manage DVR
4. In the list of content you’ve recorded, select Eliminate next to the program you want to remove
5. Confirm the deletion
6. Repeat for more

Please note that you will not receive a “out of storage space” notification on Hulu. The app will automatically start deleting older recorded content as you record something new. This is good if you don’t care too much about the recorded content after you’ve watched it. However, if you want to preserve a memorable game, for example, consider downloading it from Hulu’s Cloud DVR.

What is cloud DVR?

Each Hulu Live TV account gets an amount of online storage space, similar to the hard drive on an old DVR machine.

Basic Hulu Live TV accounts get 50 hours of Cloud DVR storage. This is for a subscription that costs $40 per month. For most people, 50 hours of content is more than enough, since you can delete programs whenever you want and the app automatically overwrites old content.

However, for an additional $15 per month, you get 200 hours with the Enhanced Cloud DVR plan for four times the storage capacity.

Can you start a show on Hulu Live TV again?

Unfortunately, unless you recorded the first episode of a show when it aired live, you won’t be able to watch it later. However, in case the show is available on the Hulu streaming platform, you can try to find it on Hulu’s regular streaming list.

Why does Hulu only play episode endings?
