If you bought a PlayStation VR (PSVR), you don’t want to waste time figuring out how to connect it to your PlayStation 4 (PS4); you just want to play some of the best virtual reality games available. Fortunately, Sony has made it easy to connect a PSVR set to both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro with minimal hassle.
To confuse things a little, there are actually two types of PlayStation VR headsets, including CUH-ZVR1 and CUH-ZVR2. The initial setup stages for both are identical, but vary towards the end of the process. He CUH-ZVR1 It has a sliding cover on the processing unit and the power button is on the headset connection cable. He CUH-ZVR2 It doesn’t have a sliding cover on the processor unit and its power button is directly on the earpiece. ZVR2 is also capable of HDR streaming, making it a better model to use with the PS4 Pro and its brilliant 4K TV. Make sure you know what model you have.
You will also need a PS Camera for PlayStation VR to work. These don’t come standard with the PSVR set, but you can purchase a starter kit bundle that includes one.
How to connect PlayStation VR
Before setting up PlayStation VR, make sure your PS4 and TV are turned off. If you purchased the PS4 with PlayStation VR, you will first need to set up the console.
- Connect the PSVR processor unit to your television. For this, it is best to use the longer HDMI cable that comes with the PS4.

How to connect PlayStation VR: CUH-ZVR1
- The CUH-ZVR1 VR headset cable includes an in-line remote control, which has the power button. Find the headphone jack on the remote control and plug in your headphones.
- Connect the two HDMI connection cables from the PSVR (labeled 4). To do this, you will need to slide the VR HDMI port cover (the whole part on the right side of the VR processor unit) back to expose the plugs. Match the four PS symbols with their counterparts on the cables and then slide the port cover back into place.
- Connect the other end of the PSVR’s HDMI connection cable to the headset cable (labeled number 5), matching the symbols appropriately.
- Turn on the TV first and then your PS4. Once these devices are turned on, turn on the PSVR using the power button on the inline remote. The blue lights on the top of the headband turn on when it’s ready to wear.
- You will be prompted to update or download the PlayStation VR device software. You will need an internet connection for this, but it won’t take long.
- Read and follow the on-screen instructions to properly configure and optimize your VR headset.
How to connect PlayStation VR: CUH-ZVR2
- The CUH-ZVR2 VR Headset Cable does not include an in-line remote with a headphone jack like the CUH-ZVR1, instead featuring the jack on the headband. Find the headphone jack and plug in your headphones.
- Insert the two PSVR headset cables (labeled number 4) into the processor unit. CUH-ZVR2 does not have a sliding port cover like the CUH-ZVR1 model. Match the four PS symbols on each plug to the same ones found on the processor unit.
- Turn on the television and then the PS4. Once the devices turn on, turn on the PSVR using the power button on the headset. When the device is ready, blue lights will be displayed on the top of the headband.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to properly configure and optimize your VR headset.
