Netflix Perfect combination is back for a second season, and the all-star dating show is more chaotic and fun than ever. The show brings together a variety of contestants who have appeared on other Netflix shows to see if any of them can find a love match, but in its second season, it takes some twists to shake up dating, like bringing in contestants. from last season who have some personal history with this season’s contestants.

PERFECT COMBINATION (SEASON 2): STREAM IT OR SKIP IT?

Initial shot: “Hello. I’m Nick Lachey,” says our host, dressed in a bathrobe and reclining in an armchair. “And right now ten of the sexiest and most eligible singles from around the world and the Netflix universe are converging here in Tulum , Mexico. Why do you ask? It’s all in the name of love, of course.”

The essence: Perfect combination combines some of the biggest personalities from other Netflix shows in an attempt to pair up and ultimately find love. All the faces look familiar if you watch shows like Too hot to handle, The circleand Love is blindbut some are definitely more infamous than others, namely Harry of Too hot to handlewho immediately and proudly claims that he broke Perfect combination The winning couple from the first season, Georgia and Dom, when he cheated with Georgia.

As each of the contestants are introduced, we are reminded what shows they used to be on and given a cheeky on-screen description. The trust Student Tolú says she has “main character energy.” Love is blindIzzy says she “has amazing credit now” and Harry just says “Too promiscuous to handle.” Harry also points out that he has already dated three former cast members from the first season of this show and that his reputation precedes him. Tolú exclaims: “They caught me in the Harry season?!”

Then Nick Lachey arrives to explain that during their first night in the house, the ten contestants have to create five matches that they will select themselves and then compete in a series of compatibility challenges that will determine if they are solid matches, or if they want to try dating others. Throughout the game, new contestants will be brought in to mix things up, but on the first night, the five men and five women simply have to mix up too much to be paired up. The next day, the first challenge involves five couples trying to use their body momentum to slide on a track, essentially simulating sex and pushing their pelvises toward each other. Genuine laughter abounds as you watch some of them fight.

Harry and his partner, Too hot to handleElys, turn out to be a surprisingly compatible couple, while Bryton (The squid game: the challenge) and Dominique (Too hot to handle), who were the first couple to get along, argue like brothers and seem to exclusively exude toxicity and criticism towards each other. So when Harry and Elys win the challenge, their prize is to go to The Boardroom and choose two new contestants to add to the group. In this case, they decide that they want to give Tolú and Dominique a chance to make new matches for themselves, and they choose two new men to enter the game, including Dom, the winner of the first season. You’ll remember that Harry cheated with Dom’s ex, Georgia, so on the one hand, it’s surprising that he deliberately chose Dom to join the game because that could certainly create some drama for him, but on the other hand… by choosing Dom to go on a date with Tolú, maybe it’s actually a disinterested act? I guess we’ll see!

What shows will it remind you of? Perfect combination is like an amalgamation of all the Netflix dating shows, but with a twist, as the contestants get to break the rules and play God from time to time when the winners of each episode send their fellow competitors on dates with people. new.

Our opinion: The cast of the second season of Perfect combination seems to have been carefully chosen for his sense of humor and his innate ability to create sound bites. It’s a really fun group to watch, especially because, at least at first, everyone gets along and seems interested in each other’s matches. (Of course, there can only be one winning couple, but along the way the drama seems to exist only between the most tempestuous couples.)

From the jump, it feels a bit like the Harry Jowsey show, since the Too hot to handle The star has made a name for herself dating many of the stars within this insular cohort of Netflix dating shows. But the thing is, Jowsey’s chest-puffing, bed-jumping ways seem self-conscious, and he has a quality of forgivability that is both charming and infuriating. (Maybe it’s just that he’s shed his baby face and become more “tough,” as they say on the Internet.) Bridgertonbut he’s giving me “every character Leo Woodall has ever played” and I’m probably conflating the two men into one adorably cocky British scoundrel.)

I don’t think anyone who watches the show expects Harry or his fellow contestants to find marriage on this show (although many of them claim they want to), but as a social experiment, it’s pretty interesting to see these veteran reality stars change their pasts. show experiences in a litmus test to know what they are looking for in a partner now.

Sex and skin: All of the contestants dress to flirt (think bikinis, open shirts) and are very candid about their sexual inclinations. While we haven’t seen anyone go to bed together yet, they’re already licking each other’s toes and no one on this show is shy about talking about their favorite sex positions or other sexual superlatives.

Parting Shot: “Sir, I already know it’s going to be a disaster,” says Tolú when she sees that she has been scheduled with none other than the winner of the first season, Dom, who was personally chosen for her by Harry and Elys.

Performance worth seeing: Too hot to handleHarry Jowsey is the man of the hour, not least because his reputation has managed to intrigue some of the women on the show, while putting off others. “Don’t judge me by my red flags,” he says, summing up perfectly.

Memorable dialogue: “Bryton is an interesting character. “He’s someone who wants to be himself at all times,” says contestant Bryton, speaking in the third person. Is he going to do this all season?

Our call: STREAM IT! Perfect combination It’s good summer fun. While we haven’t really invested much in who wins the show or whether loving partners are actually found, with a series like this, it’s more about the journey than the destination.

Liz Kocan is a pop culture writer living in Massachusetts. Her biggest claim to fame is the time she won on the game show. Chain reaction.
