Porzingis’ injury is a torn medial retinaculum that allows for dislocation of the posterior tibial tendon, according to the Celtics.
As medical expert Dr. Michael S. George explained to The Jugo Mobile, the affected area of Porzingis’ left ankle and leg affects his ability to run and jump.
According to the Celtics, Porzingis suffered the injury with less than three minutes left in the third quarter of Game 2 of the NBA Finals. He remained in the game and played through the injury before undergoing further testing between games.
Porzingis averaged 16.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocks and played 21.9 minutes per game off the bench in the Finals.
How long will Kristaps Porzingis be out?
Porzingis “improved” [Wednesday] to [Thursday] and is fighting hard to play the fourth game,” head coach Joe Mazzulla told the media on Thursday. Before the fourth game, Mazzulla confirmed Porzingis would be available for “short snaps” as Boston looks to close out the series.
