Chelsea could earn up to £1 million ($1.3 million) if Graham Potter is appointed as England’s new manager, replacing Gareth Southgate. Potter, who left Chelsea in April after less than seven months in charge, remains on the club’s payroll.

If the FA does sign Potter, his new salary would be deducted from the amount Chelsea owe him, potentially saving the club around £1m. This financial relief could help Chelsea comply with Premier League financial rules.

Chelsea signed Potter in September 2022 after sacking Thomas Tuchel, and paid Brighton around £21m in compensation for Potter and his support staff. Potter signed a five-year contract but was sacked after less than seven months.
The FA is looking for a new manager after Southgate resigned on Tuesday. While the search is not limited to English managers, Potter is believed to be among the leading candidates, along with Eddie Howe and Mauricio Pochettino.
Southgate was reportedly earning around £5 million ($6.5 million) a year, roughly £100,000 ($129,845.5) a week.
If Potter were to secure a similar deal, it would benefit Chelsea financially by reducing their outstanding obligations to him.

While several of the candidates declined to discuss the England job, Potter revealed he was “ready and excited” to return to management when asked about the links by Sky Sports News on Thursday.
“I’ve had a great break. The road from where I started to where I ended up is not easy. Moving to three countries, with a young family and everything that comes with being a football coach. For me it was important to take a break, reflect and renew my energies,” he said.
“It was a good time to look at other things, other sports, other teams and visit places. I feel really prepared, really excited to come back when the right opportunity presents itself.”
