Manchester will host two title fights when UFC 304 comes to town. Birmingham’s Leon Edwards will defend the UFC welterweight title for the third time, taking on veteran contender Belal Muhammad. Meanwhile, Salford’s Tom Aspinall will defend the interim UFC heavyweight title against Curtis Blaydes. Both fights are rematches.
The main card features several local fighters, as do the prelims. Headlining the prelims will be Nathaniel Wood vs. Daniel Pineda. Wood, from London, is looking to bounce back after his three-fight winning streak was snapped in his last bout. The former Cage Warriors bantamweight champion faces Pineda, the former Fury FC lightweight champion. Pineda is 1-1 with one no-contest in three fights.
Neither fighter is ranked at featherweight. However, an impressive win could result in a number next to their name after their fight. Getting Wood back on a winning streak will help him stay on top and achieve his ultimate goal of taking home gold.
“The goal is always to be UFC champion,” Wood told UFC 249 last year. Meter“From my current perspective, I probably have another three years left at my peak. I know everyone is different, but from what we tend to see after the age of 33 is when you start to deteriorate a bit, and I’ve been in this sport since I was 16. I’ve got three years now to work my way up. I just need that qualification to start working my way into the top ten.”
