Liverpool have made a slow start to the summer transfer window, being the only club among the Premier League’s traditional so-called “Big Six” without a senior signing so far.
Several veteran stars, including Thiago Alcántara, Joel Matip and Adrián, left the club at the end of June, leaving new manager Arne Slot with a squad in need of reinforcements.
So far, there hasn’t been much indication of any new players arriving at Anfield. However, this situation could soon change as transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update that could excite Liverpool fans.
Liverpool are considering signing Anthony Gordon
Romano claims the Merseysiders are discussing a new signing for Newcastle and England star Anthony Gordon.
The electric 23-year-old winger enjoyed an excellent first full season with the Magpies in the 2023/24 campaign, scoring 12 goals and assisting 11 times in all competitions.
That stellar form earned him a place in England’s squad for Euro 2024, but he made just one substitute appearance in the tournament as the Three Lions again fell short in the final, this time against a dominant Spanish side.

The Italian journalist also adds that Liverpool-born Gordon had previously given his approval to return to Merseyside with the Reds, despite having made 78 appearances for city rivals Everton before his move to Newcastle midway through the 2022/23 season.
Talking about his Youtube Speaking to Channel 10, Romano said: “At the end of June, when they were in trouble with Financial Fair Play, Liverpool approached Newcastle for Anthony Gordon. There was an exchange, the player was interested in the transfer, so at that time Anthony Gordon gave the green light to a possible transfer to Liverpool.
“But Newcastle decided not to accept the proposals. It was just an exchange, just a conversation, not a formal offer. Liverpool wanted to make an offer but it was not what Newcastle expected for Anthony Gordon.
“What I wanted to say to you tonight is that what I’m hearing is that Liverpool’s interest in Anthony Gordon remains strong, it’s still a concrete interest. He’s a player they really value internally, a player they really like. Anthony Gordon’s name remains very much at the top of Liverpool’s list.”
