But that’s the home of Sandy Cheeks, a science-minded Texas-born squirrel and a supporting character on the popular animated children’s show, Sponge Bob Square Pants. Now, for the first time, Sandy Cheeks will have her own feature film, also known as Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Moviewhich arrives on Netflix this weekend.
Directed by Liza Johnson, written by Tom Stern and Kaz, The Sandy Cheeks Movie marks the fourth film in the sponge Bob franchise, and the first of the spin-off films. But don’t worry: Even though the movie is about Sandy, her friend SpongeBob is also along for the ride. And while the animation looks different, the Nickelodeon series’ original voice actors, Carolyn Lawrence and Tom Kenny, star as the voices of Sandy and SpongeBob, respectively.
As the title of the film suggests, the underwater city of Bikini Bottom is in danger and it is up to SpongeBob and Sandy to save it. To do so, the duo must travel over the sea to Sandy’s home state of Texas.
