Zack Snyder promised fans sex and gore in the R-rated extended cut of his two-part Netflix film franchise, Rebel Moonand he is a man of his word. Both Rebel Moon, Part 1: Director’s CutandRebel Moon, Part 2: Director’s Cut It started streaming on Netflix today, and not only is there a lot more blood-splattered action, but there are also two explicit scenes. Rebel Moon: Director’s Cut Sex scenes, with star Sofia Boutella.
Directed by Snyder, who also co-wrote the script with Kurt Johnstad and Shay Hatten,Rebel Moon Follow the journey of Kora (Boutella). Kora was once a brainwashed soldier for the evil Motherworld Empire, but in the first film, she becomes a rebel fighter dedicated to defending the farming community living on the moon known as the Veldt. The first film was about assembling a team, and the second film was about the epic battle between the rebels and the villain who came back from the dead, Atticus Noble (Ed Skrein). In the PG-13 versions of the first two films, there was barely time to get to know all of the characters, much less see them in action.
But all in all, this R-rated director’s cut runs over six hours. Now Kora has both the time and the MPA rating to indulge in some carnal pleasures with her two lovers. In the director’s cut of Part OneIn this film, we see a passionate night that Kora spends with her on-again, off-again lover, Den (Stuart Martin). Yes, there is nudity, and yes, Boutella is seen topless. But Kora’s nudity also reveals something new about her character: she has extensive scars along the sides and back of her body.
In a previous interview with Jugo Mobile, Boutella revealed that the decision to show Kora’s scars in the sex scenes was, in fact, her idea.
“You’ll see in the extended version, Kora has injuries,” Boutella told Jugo Mobile in a Zoom interview in April. “I asked Zack if it would be okay, when you see my skin, if we could see the injuries. And he said yes.”
In the director’s cut of The second partKora has another explicit sex scene, this time with her love interest, Gunnar (played by Michiel Huisman). It’s much more tender and sweet than their first sex scene, because, well, they’re in love! Once again, Kora’s scars are clearly visible.
Boutella told Jugo Mobile that she came up with the idea for Kora’s back injuries when she was thinking of a plot reason to justify why her character would wear a corset, which was part of the costume designed by costume designer Stephanie Portnoy Porter.
“I thought, ‘Well, what do I do with that? Why do I wear a corset?’ For me, if it’s purely aesthetic, it’s not enough,” Boutella explained. “I need to have a background and a story that explains why I wear what I wear. Having been in wars and on battlefields for so long, [Kora] “She probably doesn’t have the best back. And she probably needs support. Seriously! When you meet her in Veldt, she’s plowing the land, I thought, ‘That’s why she was wearing the corset. It’s a back support!’ That gave me the idea, which I’m happy you’ll see in the extended version, that Kora has injuries.”
Boutella also expressed gratitude to Snyder for accepting the idea. “I really got the chance to give my input and be creative with the character. Thanks to Zack for that, because he allowed me to do that.”
