Former Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is pushing for a return to the Premier League this summer, with his current club Besiktas looking to facilitate his exit.

Oxlade-Chamberlain moved to the Turkish side on a free transfer last year after his contract with Liverpool came to an end.

The 30-year-old played 30 times in all competitions for Besiktas and scored four goals.

Despite helping the team win the Turkish Cup, Besiktas finished sixth in the league and were eliminated in the group stage of the Europa Conference League.

Clubs interested in former Liverpool midfielder

According Adam Leventhal of The AthleticBesiktas and Oxlade-Chamberlain are working together to find options for their return to the Premier League.

“Besiktas and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are exploring options for the former Liverpool midfielder to return to the Premier League,” Leventhal said. “The Turkish club are open to a sale while they restructure their squad and reduce their wage bill. All parties aim to find an amicable solution and allow him to return to the UK.”

A number of Premier League clubs, especially those at the lower end of the table, are likely to be interested in Oxlade-Chamberlain.

His fitness has improved, allowing him to make his most appearances in a season in four years. Brentford and Sheffield United showed interest last summer, and it is unclear whether they will pursue him again.

Given his experience and versatility, Oxlade-Chamberlain could be a valuable addition to many teams. He has played in a number of positions including right-back, central midfield, attacking midfield and on either wing.

A possible return to his boyhood club Southampton could also be on the cards, offering a nostalgic homecoming.

Signed by Liverpool for £35 million ($44.6 million) in 2017, Oxlade-Chamberlain made 146 appearances, scoring 18 goals and providing 15 assists. He was part of the team that won the Premier League in the 2019/20 season, as well as the Club World Cup, the Champions League and both domestic cups.

His return to England could bring valuable experience and depth to any Premier League side looking to strengthen their squad.
