Manchester United have switched their attention to Burnley’s standout midfielder Sander Berge after deciding not to pursue Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte due to concerns over his high rating.
For several weeks now, Manchester United have been keeping tabs on Uruguayan international Manuel Ugarte, who has gained a lot of attention following his impressive performances for Sporting CP.
Despite PSG’s willingness to negotiate, the €60m (£51.4m/$65.5m) asking price for Ugarte has proven too high for United.
With no progress being made on the Ugarte deal, United have turned their attention to alternative targets. One of the names that has emerged is Burnley’s Norwegian midfielder Sander Berge.

According The athleticManchester United officials have contacted Berge’s representatives over a possible move. Berge, who joined Burnley from Sheffield United for £12m ($15.3m) last summer, has quickly become one of Burnley’s top performers.
Known for his dribbling skills, accurate passing under pressure and impressive speed (reaching a top speed of 35.90 km/h), Berge has caught the eye of United’s scouting team.
Burnley manager Vincent Kompany praised Berge’s skills last season, saying: “He’s an intelligent footballer, with a great eye for a pass and the ability to run with the ball. He also has a strength and physicality that will be invaluable in the Premier League.”
As well as Berge, United have a number of other midfielders on their list. Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, who shone during Spain’s Euro 2024-winning campaign, tops the list. Dutch midfielder Joey Veerman and PSG’s Adrien Rabiot are also being considered as potential signings.
The coming weeks will reveal whether Berge moves to Old Trafford or whether United secure any of their other targets.
