UFC 305 Preview
Du Plessis (21-1) has nine wins by knockout and ten by submission in his MMA career. A former EFC and KSW welterweight champion, Du Plessis (21-1) beat former champion Robert Whittaker to earn a shot at then-champion Sean Strickland. The former kickboxer beat Strickland for the belt after mixed scorecards.
Adesanya (24-3) is a former two-time UFC middleweight champion. He beat Whittaker for the belt in Melbourne, lost it to kickboxing rival Alex Pereira at UFC 281 and regained it at UFC 287. After a lackluster performance against Strickland in September and losing the belt, Adesanya is back in action.
If Adesanya wins, “The Last Stylebender” would be in rare territory as a three-time UFC champion. He would also be beating a rival like Du Plessis, as Adesanya took offense to calling himself the first fighter living and training in Africa to hold a UFC belt.
Meanwhile, du Plessis is looking to go 10-0 since 2019 and prove she deserves the gold.
