We are well into the thick of things as the second straight of the 2024 Formula 1 season continues apace, and after McLaren’s Australian star Oscar Piastri claimed his first ever career victory at the Hungaroring last weekend, all 20 drivers head to the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Liège for this year’s Belgian Grand Prix.
McLaren team-mates Piastri and Lando Norris secured a one-two finish ahead of British Grand Prix winner Lewis Hamilton, with reigning world champion Max Verstappen well back in fifth after a controversial mix-up with Hamilton could have cost him dearly.
The Dutchman still holds a comfortable 76-point lead at the top of the Drivers’ Championship standings, but stuck in the worst run of form we’ve seen in a long, long time, Verstappen’s untouchable status is under serious threat this season.
Hamilton’s Mercedes team-mate George Russell had an afternoon to forget after winning in Austria just two races previously, but he still managed to post the fastest lap in eighth after starting the race in 17th.
With the Netherlands and Italy the final two rounds of the European card to be contested before heading to Asia and the Americas for this season’s closing races, the iconic Spa circuit looks set to host another fantastic weekend as the second half of the campaign continues at one of F1’s crown jewels.

Winning odds for the 2024 F1 Belgian Grand Prix
It’s finally happened: for the first time in 2024, reigning three-time world champion Max Verstappen is NOT the favourite to win this weekend’s race! Failing to win in three consecutive meetings, finishing fifth, second and fifth respectively, Red Bull’s Flying Dutchman drops to +350, making him the third favourite for this weekend.
Instead, BetMGM The two McLaren drivers most likely to take victory at Spa are Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, although the pair have only won two races in their careers, both this season. Piastri is +300 after his win in Hungary, while Norris is surprisingly -111 and the overwhelming favourite for what is technically a ‘home’ race.
George Russell’s mixed weekend hasn’t affected his favourites’ standings too much, and he’s level with Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton at +1000. The Briton started 17th on the grid after a horror qualifying session, but fought his way back through the field to finish eighth and record the fastest lap of the day in the process.
Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez both had much better races in Hungary after the horrors of Silverstone, finishing fourth and seventh respectively after 14th and 17th places in the British GP. They have not yet made much progress in the standings, however. BetMGM keeping Leclerc at +2500 and putting Perez at +3000, level with Leclerc’s Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz.

2024 F1 Belgian Grand Prix: The Best Bet
- Take: Lando Norris to qualify on pole and win 2024 Belgian Grand Prix

Being both a British and Belgian citizen, Norris is the closest we’ve had to a ‘local’ driver at Spa this year, and after surrendering what looked like a sure win to team-mate Piastri at the Hungaroring last weekend, we doubt Norris will be in such a generous mood this time around.

Like McLaren, Mercedes have surged into the world championship race in recent weeks, with Hamilton and Russell both recording their first wins of the season in two of the last three races.
The duo had however set the fastest lap times for several meetings in a row before finally reaching the parapet, and after Russell fought his way through a crowded field from 17th to eighth in Hungary – and still set the fastest lap – we think he or team-mate Hamilton could do it again.
Of course, neither will want to start from the back of the pack, but even if they mix with the favourites on Sunday, BetMGM Placing a +700 advantage over Russell and Hamilton is certainly a risk worth taking given the pair have recorded the fastest lap in four of the last seven races between them.
F1 2024 Belgian Grand Prix: Flyer bet

It is almost unthinkable for a reigning three-time world champion, but doubts about Verstappen’s temperament and overly competitive nature have emerged after two high-profile incidents in the last three races.
Collisions with Norris and Hamilton in Austria and Hungary respectively saw the Dutchman drop from first to fifth – and both incidents were deemed to be his fault by the FIA.
Unless Verstappen pulls himself together, he won’t be anywhere near the winner’s circle if the next clash rules him out of a race altogether, and BetMGM I have a +700 probability on this situation – collision or otherwise – this weekend.
