The Tennessee Titans signed linebacker Kenneth Murray earlier this offseason to help fill their void at the position following the departure of Azeez Al-Shaair to the Houston Texans in free agency.
Tennessee gave Murray a two-year, $15.5 million contract that many thought was too much for the old Los Angeles Chargerwho certainly had his share of struggles after being drafted in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
One NFL analyst who seems to agree with this is Ryan Fowler of Bleacher Reportwho ranked Murray second at linebacker on his “totally overpaid team.”
Tennessee didn’t spend a fortune to sign Kenneth Murray, but his $7.8 million annual salary ranks 15th among all NFL backs.
Like Brooks, the 25-year-old is an athlete who moves with the tic and instinct to fly from sideline to sideline against the run, but his problems come in coverage.
Slated to start alongside new addition Ernest Jones IV for the Titans, Murray’s knack for finding comfort in space will increase his performance ceiling and quantify his monetary commitment.
Murray’s career has been disappointing, so it was surprising to see him get so much on the open market. On the bright side, he’s had a good showing this offseason and has been named team captainso maybe he’ll turn the page.
The Titans appeared ready to roll with Murray and Jack Gibbens as their starters at linebacker before the football gods gave them a gift in honor of The Los Angeles Rams linebacker Ernest Jones, who strengthens the group.
