“[Sadiq] had a minor procedure, so he won’t be out at practice today,” Glenn said. “He had a minor procedure. Something that he dealt with, and something we knew about, going into his last year of college. He dealt with it during rookie mini-camp. We want to make sure it’s done after rookie mini-camp so he’ll be ready to go during training camp.”
The Jets head coach also admitted that the team knew about Sadiq’s injury before the draft, which may have been the reason why he fell to No. 16 overall.
Kenyon Sadiq has tools to become one of NFL’s best tight ends
The 21-year-old enters his upcoming 2026 rookie season with high hopes. The former Oregon Duck was named Big Ten Tight End of the Year in 2025 and earned first-team All-Big Ten honors.
During his career at Eugene, he appeared in 42 games and recorded 80 receptions for 892 yards (11.2 yards per reception_ and 11 touchdowns. Sadiq also recorded nine carries for 42 yards.
Sadiq is expected to bolster the Jets’ offense in a big way, as he entered the draft considered by many thinking he is the best overall player in this year’s class.
The Idaho native has elite qualities and record-breaking athleticism, giving him tremendous upside. That’s one of the reasons why Sadiq will likely be the focal point of the Jets’ offense from the start.
Still, Sadiq has a lot to work on, including his less-than-polished route running and struggles at times with zone coverage.
Nonetheless, Sadiq has all the tools to be an elite tight end and potentially one of the best in the league with proper development.
