The Las Vegas Raiders have acquired wide receiver Davante Adams from the Green Bay Packers during the 2022 offseason, and the 31-year-old recorded back-to-back 100-reception and 1,000-yard seasons in his first two seasons with the team.
Despite being one of the NFL’s top receivers, Adams has been the subject of trade speculation this offseason due to Las Vegas’ lack of success and abysmal quarterback play since the former All-Pro’s arrival.
In an article suggesting win-win business proposals ahead of the 2024 season, Ian Valentino of Team 33 suggested an intriguing trade package for the Raiders and the Detroit Lions Adams would go to Detroit in exchange for Jameson Williams and a 2025 second-round pick.
Here’s what Valentino had to say about the hypothetical Las Vegas-Detroit trade.
Everyone wants Davante Adams on the Jets, and the idea of pairing Aaron Rodgers with a familiar face in Adams makes sense. But the Detroit Lions are America’s Team right now, so putting the 31-year-old in the league’s most entertaining offense is a better fit. Detroit should be all-in, and its WR2 situation isn’t up to par for a Super Bowl run.
In exchange, the Raiders would pocket $17.5 million in 2024, then more than $36 million in 2025 and 2026. It is by betting on Jameson Williams that this agreement will cross the finish line.
Williams is an electric player with high upside and, with a 2025 second-round pick, is a decent return for Adams.
But general manager Tom Telesco’s starting price for the future Hall of Famer has to be a first-round pick and higher. Adams is entering the final years of his career and has been productive despite his quarterback’s inept play, and the former Fresno State standout has shown no signs of decline.
With the 2025 NFL Draft loaded with talent at receiver and the Raiders still having glaring holes on their roster, having an extra first-round pick to help the team rebuild would be helpful.
Outside of Maxx Crosby, Adams is the most attractive trade piece the Raiders have on their roster, and if they are forced to move him, they should get top-tier value in return.
Williams and an extra day two pick is a solid return for Adams, but if there’s an opportunity to get a first-round pick in another deal, his value exceeds the Lions’ hypothetical offer.
