Harry Kane is determined to follow in Cristiano Ronaldo’s footsteps as he prepares for England’s upcoming Nations League game against Ireland.
After a difficult Euro 2024, the England captain is now focused on prolonging his career and staying in top form, just as Ronaldo did in his late 30s.
The Tottenham legend, now at Bayern Munich, has already started the Bundesliga season on a high note, scoring against Freiburg.
But his real inspiration comes from Ronaldo, who recently scored his 900th career goal at the age of 39. Kane is eager to match the longevity and success the Portuguese star has enjoyed.
Kane’s motivation to emulate Ronaldo
Kane, who turns 31 later this year, has made it clear that Ronaldo is the role model he wants to emulate, and has openly expressed his admiration for the former Real Madrid star’s ability to stay at the top for so long.
“Cristiano is a benchmark, not only because he is one of the best footballers of all time, but also because he is the benchmark for playing time at a higher level. I feel really good, both physically and mentally,” Kane said.
“The Ronaldos, the Messis, the Benzemas, the Lewandowskis have almost raised their level as they approach their thirties. Cristiano demonstrates it every week, so from my point of view, that’s the objective.”
As Kane approaches his 100th England cap, he will be hoping to lead the team to a positive result against Ireland and continue his goalscoring streak.
After the international break, Kane will focus on his club, aiming to help Bayern Munich reclaim the Bundesliga title and add more goals to his already impressive tally.
