When it comes to Tom Cruise and action, you might be more inclined to think of Ethan Hunt scaling a building before anything else — but with its latest addition, Netflix knows what’s up.
Sure, Tom Cruise’s role as Ethan Hunt is a major contribution to the art of action filmmaking. But his talents aren’t exclusive to the IMF, as the underrated sci-fi blockbuster Edge of Tomorrow proves.
Set in an alternate future where most of Europe has been invaded by an alien race, Cruise plays Major William Cage, an officer who finds himself trapped in a time loop while trying to defeat the invaders in the ongoing war.
Released in 2014, this time-travel film was a huge success with audiences, critics, and at the box office. With a score of 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, it is also one of the highest-rated Tom Cruise films on the platform, outside of Mission: Impossible.

As user X wrote: “Edge of Tomorrow is a highlight for Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, a lesson in structure and pacing. Sci-fi action with this level of light, intellectual confidence is always a gift, but this one is both poignant and playful, and already a classic.”
“Edge of Tomorrow is a really great, really great, really good movie,” said another.
A third said:”Edge of Tomorrow is fantastic! One of Tom Cruise’s best movies and performances!”
