Fans of the hit Netflix series will be shocked by Emily’s change of heart about her Parisian lifestyle in season 4. But is Emily in Paris season 5 really happening?
You look away for five seconds and suddenly everything changes – and that’s exactly what Emily in Paris did. Season 4, Part 2 brought the change of a lifetime: a new job and a new man in a new country.
There’s a lot to take in, but our heroine does well in the new episodes of this binge-watching series. Marcello is the focus of her attention, while Gabriel and his Michelin star play a more platonic role.
However, this is a Netflix romantic comedy, which means nothing stays the same for long. As Emily settles into her brand new life, will fans be treated to Emily in Paris Season 5?
Will there be a season 5 of Emily in Paris?
At the time of writing this article, Emily in Paris season 5 has not been officially announced. However, this does not mean that plans are not already being made.
Netflix
Speaking to Jugo Mobile, creator Darren Star hinted that “surprise storylines” could resurface if the series gets the green light.
“There are some potential storylines that have been set up in previous seasons that could resurface in the future… in Season 5,” he explained. “That will be a surprise for the new episodes.”
For now, Star and her team can only keep their fingers crossed that the streaming service wants to know more about Emily’s trip to Italy. Even Lily Collins is being kept in the dark.
Speaking to ExtraTV, she explain “We’ll have to wait until Season 5 to find out, so I’m praying we finally get the green light and explore more of Italy. It would be so much fun to see more of the city and the country, and see what Marcello could bring to Emily.
“It’s a very different vibe and energy, so I’m excited for Emily to find a different version of herself.”
We will update this page as soon as Netflix makes an official announcement.
We don’t know if the title would change.
Since episode 10 of season 4, Emily in Paris has officially become Emily in Rome. We don’t know yet if the title of the show itself will change… but it’s possible.
Netflix
Technically speaking, the new episodes could be dubbed Emily in Rome Season 1. The last time we see her in Season 4, Episode 10, Emily is about to change her Instagram handle permanently.
She erases the “Paris” part of the username and has just started typing “Rome” when there’s a knock at the door. It’s Marcello, who’s come to pick her up for the evening, and she’s left her phone at home.
Emily literally left her stay in Paris unfinished, which means she could just as easily return to the French capital at any time. She has important ties there, so a return to the traditional format can’t be completely ruled out.
The episode schedule could also give us an idea of whether Emily in Rome could become a permanent tagline. As a marketing gimmick, “Emily in Rome” was the name given to Season 4, Part 2, suggesting that no major branding change is on the horizon.
Potential casting
Although nothing is confirmed, It makes sense that all the key players will return for Emily in Paris season 5.including new faces introduced in Season 4.
Netflix
For the uninitiated, it would look like this:
- Lily Collins as Emily
- Ashley Park as Mindy
- Lucas Bravo as Gabriel
- Camille Razat as Camille
- Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu as Sylvie
- Samuel Arnold as Julien
- Bruno Gouery as Luc
- Lucien Laviscount as Alfie
In addition to this, we have our Italian cohort in the new programming:
- Eugenio Franceschini as Marcello
- Thalia Besson as Genevieve
- Ruper Everett as Giorgio Barbieri

Of course, the fate of a few other characters is much more uncertain. Season 4 saw Sofia (Melia Kreiling) return to Greece, while Sylvie’s husband Laurent (Arnaud Binard) spent more time on business trips abroad.
For now, Emily remains in Rome
Emily has officially traded Paris for Rome, with a new job and a new man giving her the excuse to stay. There is only one reason she will be drawn to the French city: Gabriel.
Netflix
After returning from Rome where she visited Emily, Mindy shares with Gabriel and Alfie the latest news on her best friend’s career. Gabriel, who has already dodged the advances of Geneviève, the new employee of the Grateau Agency, is suddenly destabilized.
The couple splits up in Season 4, Episode 6 after a skiing accident sends Emily spiraling out of control. The two argue over communication issues, with Gabriel remaining attached to Camille and their baby—who doesn’t actually exist.
In the final moments of episode 10, we see Gabriel show up at the door of what we think is Emily’s new Italian apartment. The truth is a little different since he went to see Mindy, begging her to tell him exactly where in Italy she’s settled.
Unbeknownst to Emily, the chase is now on to bring her back to Paris. But with the new account dependent on an office in Rome and Marcello in the mix, will Emily really come back?
Could there be a spin-off of the Grateau Agency?
Talk to Jugo Mobile, Actors Samuel Arnold and Bruno Gouery have said they would be “open” to directing a spin-off focusing on the other employees of the Grateau Agency as they set up an office in Rome.
Netflix
“Let’s see if we can get a Season 5 first,” Arnold explained. “But I would love to stay in Rome. The new location changes everything… from the language to the dynamics and the way we express ourselves.”
Gouery added: “I’m looking forward to seeing what the audience thinks about us being in Rome. I wonder if they think the DNA of the show will say the same thing.”
“I had already imagined what Julian wanted to do,” Arnold said. “But every time I came back for a new season, the writers had done something much better. Now I’ve learned my lesson, I just trust Darren and his team.”
“I’m really looking forward to seeing what they have in store for season 5.”
