Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has hinted at a potential tactical change as Rasmus Hojlund moves closer to his long-awaited return.
After a series of injuries hampered United’s season, Hojlund’s recovery offers a glimmer of hope for the Red Devils, who have struggled for fitness and consistency.
The Danish striker’s return could bring a formation change that fans haven’t seen in a while.
Could Hojlund and Zirkzee lead the line together?
Ahead of Manchester United’s upcoming clash with Crystal Palace, Ten Hag has hinted that he could partner Hojlund with young striker Joshua Zirkzee in a move that could shake up United’s usual line-up.
Talk to Sky SportsTen Hag said: “We bought two young strikers who can play together but also rotate together. It’s good. [that they are different profiles]. We can use them depending on the match.
“We need to change the situation. We know how to do it.”

With those words, Ten Hag left fans excited about the idea of United playing with a two-striker formation, something that could bring some much-needed firepower to the team.
Tactical gamble or genius move?
While Ten Hag’s comments have been met with enthusiasm, the prospect of United playing with two forwards is not without its problems.
A 4-4-2 formation might not suit the current crop of midfielders and wingers, particularly Bruno Fernandes, who would be forced to play deeper or wider. Similarly, squad players like Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho, who have been key players this season, might see their influence reduced in a 3-5-2 setup.
However, having the option to field Hojlund and Zirkzee could give United a new dimension in attack, something they sorely lack. The flexibility to change formations could prove invaluable, especially when the pressure is on, and it would allow Ten Hag to adapt depending on the opponent.
