The 2024 season has been a rough one for the Patriots, and the team took another hit on Sunday.
Rookie QB Drake Maye left the game against the Jets with a head injury, and he will not return. He suffered the injury during the second quarter of the Week 8 contest before heading to the locker room.
Jacoby Brissett is in at quarterback for New England with Maye sidelined for the rest of the action.
Maye was making his third start of his NFL career Sunday. The No. 3 pick from the 2024 NFL Draft began the season sitting behind Brissett, but Maye was promoted to the starter in Week 6.
At the time of his departure from the game, Maye was three-for-six for 23 yards through the air, while he had three carries for 46 yards, including a 17-yard rushing touchdown.

Drake Maye injury update
Maye left the Patriots-Jets game during the second quarter with a head injury. On a second down scramble, Maye was hit in the head by Jets linebacker Jamien Sherwood.
No flag was thrown on the play.
He stayed in for the next play, failing to complete a pass on third down, and went into the blue medical tent as the punt unit came onto the field.

Maye then went into the locker room, and the Patriots initially ruled him as questionable to return. However, at halftime, the team announced that he would not return to the game.
With Maye unable to return, Brissett will be the quarterback for the rest of Sunday. The veteran started the first five games of the season for New England before head coach Jerod Mayo made the switch to the rookie in Week 6.
In his five starts in 2024, Brissett completed 58.5% of his passes for 696 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.
