Manchester City’s 24-year-old star, Phil Foden, has been under increasing scrutiny during a sluggish start to the 2024/25 season.
After a sensational 2023/24 season that saw him contribute to 27 goals across the league, Foden has yet to make a similar impact this year for City.
With Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri sidelined due to injuries, Foden’s performances have been less consistent, leaving City fans concerned.
This season, Foden has gone eight Premier League matches without scoring and has managed just one assist. Although he’s shown flashes of brilliance in the Champions League, scoring three times, his Premier League contributions have been meagre.
This is particularly concerning given City’s recent struggles, with the club now trailing five points behind league leaders Liverpool.
Speaking last month, Foden addressed the issue himself. He said: “Last year there were so many games. I put everything I could into it. I came back a little bit fatigued, which is normal. Rodri came back like that as well, a few players.
“It’s normal how many games we play — you have to burnout at some point. I’m making steps in the right direction and trying to get back to my best.”
Foden has recently withdrawn from England’s squad for the international break, so has some time to regroup.
Manchester City’s next match after the break is a home game against Tottenham Hotspur, a chance for Foden to rediscover his form and reassure both fans and staff.
