Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has offered a key update on Kevin De Bruyne’s future at the club.
De Bruyne has recently returned from injury, following a two-month absence due to a hamstring problem, with the club facing a key call on his next step in the coming months.
The 33-year-old has gained iconic status at the Etihad Stadium as one of the world’s leading midfielders and the focal point of Guardiola’s Premier League dominance.
However, with his contract expiring at the end of the season, City fans are eager to know if the Belgium international will sign a renewal for the 2025/26 campaign.

De Bruyne will be eligible to leave City at the end of the season as a free agent if an extension is not agreed with the EPL champions.
2024/25 is De Bruyne’s 11th season at the club, with 103 goals scored in 391 appearances, alongside six top-flight league titles and one UEFA Champions League crown.
With little news over whether a renewal has been offered, amid concerns over recurrent hamstring injuries, Guardiola admitted De Bruyne’s physicality is a concern – but insisted the veteran had earned the right to make the call on his future.
“I don’t know. It’s up to Kevin. Whether that is at the end of the season or next one. Like David Silva, he will decide when is best for him and the team,” as per quotes from BBC Sport.
“He will not want to be in the position where he can’t play every three days. When he’s available, he has to play.”
De Bruyne was also asked about his future plans, ahead of City’s Champions League clash with Feyenoord, and he added “doesn’t know” where his future lies beyond the end of the season.
“If no talks come then this is my last year…I just want to play good football, then we will see.”
