NBA comebacks are challenging to achieve when players are competing outside the United States.
Still, it’s important to remain prepared for promising opportunities. A controversial ex-Los Angeles Lakers guard is playing in Israel, but he has his sights set on an eventual NBA return.
“The Phoenix Suns,” Patrick Beverley said on Monday when asked about his preferred NBA destination. “I’ve played with a bunch of superstars. I would like to see how Bradley Beal, Devin Booker, and KD (Kevin Durant) prepare.”
“I’ve played with James Harden, Dwight Howard, Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, (Joel) Embiid, (Tyrese) Maxey, Giannis (Antetokounmpo), Damian Lillard, Karl-Anthony Towns, Lebron (James), Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook.”
“I’ve played with a ton of (expletive), and I just want to see how they (Beal, Booker, and Durant) prepare.”
Beverley, known for wreaking havoc defensively and making questionable decisions on the hardwood, inked a contract with Hapoel Tel Aviv of the Israeli Basketball Premier League in July.
The Arkansas product suited up for the Milwaukee Bucks during the 2023-24 campaign but failed to convince the organization to re-sign him after one season.
Beverley started his NBA career with the Houston Rockets in 2012 and carved a solid role under Kevin McHale, J.B. Bickerstaff, and Mike D’Antoni.
The former second-round pick averaged at least eight points on four consecutive occasions, never shot below 35% from three-point land, and nearly recorded two steals per game during the 2016-17 season.
Still, the Rockets elected to trade Beverley to the Los Angeles Clippers in 2017.
Beverley spent four seasons with the Clippers and one season with the Minnesota Timberwolves before joining the Lakers in 2022.
When Beverley was on the roster, Los Angeles wasn’t a stellar defensive ball club, but Beverley did his part when Darvin Ham called his number.
At age 36, Beverley will unlikely draw interest from the Suns or any other NBA franchise this season.
However, he’s committed to proving he can still produce in the big leagues if given a legitimate chance.
