Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou admitted his injury-hit squad are in need of a rest as their Premier League form continues to stutter.
Postecoglou is without a host of key players due to injury as 2025 looms and his struggling team slipped to a 2-2 home draw with Wolves.
Despite leading 2-1 heading into the final minutes, they were unable to withstand Wolves’ push for a point, as substitute Jorgen Strand Larsen slotted home in added time.
Postecoglou’s frustration was clear to see at full-time. Left-back Destiny Udogie was forced off injured during the second-half and the Spurs claimed the incoming gap in the schedule will be a major boost for his struggling team.
“We’re asking a lot of a small core group of players. The whole group probably needs a couple of days to get away and recover,” he told BBC Sport.
“It’s been really intense for a core group of players. It will do them good to go away with their families to recover – mentally as much as physically.
“I will keep going and look for help to get these players to perform at their best.”
Pressure continues to mount on Postecoglou’s position in north London as Spurs end 2024 with just one win in their past seven EPL games.
The Australian coach has consistently batted away questions over his future at the club, but he is in need of a strong start to 2025 as he aims to drive his team back up the Premier League table.
Postecoglou now has six days before Tottenham’s next outing, at home to Newcastle United in league action on January 4. Then comes a a crunch EFL Cup semifinal first leg against Liverpool four days later, a competition in which it feels like Spurs’ continued progress could make or break their season.
