The Golden State Warriors’ painfully average 2024-25 season has caught the attention of the basketball world, with both fans and fellow NBA franchises waiting on bated breath to see what the dynastic organization does next.
Currently possessing a 19-18 record and positioned as the Western Conference’s No. 9 seed, the team isn’t quite ready to compete for an eighth title in franchise history with two-time league MVP Stephen Curry at the helm.
In order to correct their most prevalent issues and assert themselves as true contenders in a loaded conference, their general manager Mike Dunleavy may strongly consider reaching out to a potentially selling team with plenty of superstar talent to give away.
While the Phoenix Suns have been fully entrenched in trade speculation in recent weeks regarding three-time All-Star guard Bradley Beal, Dunleavy could instead try to swing for the fences and convince the Suns to start a fire sale by parting ways with superstar shooting guard Devin Booker.
At 28 years old, Booker is a four-time All-Star and two-time All-NBA selection seemingly entering his prime years. Strangely enough, the present moment may be the best opportunity for the Warriors to buy low for a player of his caliber.
This is due to Booker’s slow start to the season (for his standards), as he’s averaging 24.4 points and 7.0 assists with a 49.6% effective field goal percentage, the lowest mark since his rookie campaign.
The supremely skilled scorer has proven to be one of the greats in terms of putting the ball in the basket with fantastic efficiency as a high-volume shooter, but his regression this season could be attributed to the ongoing rumors surrounding his franchise.
With the Suns’ record sitting at 17-19 and the opportunity to compete with one of the winningest superstars of the decade in Curry staring Booker in the face, there’s even the possibility that the star pushes for a deal if Phoenix continues to struggle as the Feb. 6 trade deadline approaches.
In a potential acquisition, Golden State pairing Curry and Booker on the same roster would immediately create one of the best backcourts in league history.Â
With Booker falling short of a championship victory when his Suns were defeated in the 2021 NBA Finals by the Milwaukee Bucks, the savvy scorer could view a trade to Golden State as a golden opportunity to capture an elusive title.
In exchange for Booker, Golden State would have to offer different variations of deals likely including Andrew Wiggins, Jonathan Kuminga, Brandin Podziemski and Moses Moody along with veterans Gary Payton II and Kevon Looney and first-round draft capital.
