The New York Giants have a chance to land a premier prospect in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, and there has been some recent buzz about a potential trade-back scenario.
Holding the No. 3 overall pick, the Giants seemed primed to take a quarterback with that selection earlier in the offseason. However, the additions of Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston afford them the flexibility to go in a different route if they feel inclined.
In the latest mock draft from Luke Easterling of Athlon Sports, the Giants were predicted to move back in a trade with the Chicago Bears after Cam Ward and Travis Hunter came off the board with the first two selections. With the No. 10 pick, the Giants land Michigan cornerback Will Johnson.
“After dropping down from the No. 3 spot and adding a pair of early second-rounders from the Bears, the Giants fill a big need on defense with a blue-chip talent. Johnson was slowed by some nagging injuries last season, but at full strength, has proven he has the physical tools, instincts and ball skills to be a shutdown corner,” Easterling wrote.
With Abdul Carter and Shedeur Sanders still on the board in this mock draft, to move back seven spots means the Giants would have to be convicted in their belief that they can move on without them.

Adding Johnson to the secondary would certainly give the unit more to work with. Entering the 2024 collegiate season, Johnson was considered one of the top overall prospects in the class. He was coming off an All-American campaign in 2023 in which he recorded four interceptions and eight passes defensed along with a 30.9 passer rating allowed, according to Pro Football Focus.
Johnson would be joining a secondary that includes Paulson Adebo and 2023 first-rounder Deonte Banks on the outside. If the Giants indeed trade back, Johnson is likely on the list of prospects to consider.
